Dear CANDIDATE NAME, (SAMPLE LETTER, External Funding Received)
*Note for RASO/HR – the position requisition form will indicate the amount of salary coming
from Ryerson University only and not the combined compensation amount.
**Note for PI – the total combined funding from all sources must be at the minimum of $35,000
and benefits will be applied against the total combined funding (internal and external sources).
Should the external funding be reduced or eliminated, you will need to make up the shortfall to
ensure the PDF receives the $35,000 minimum funding.
I understand that you have recently received an external funding grant in the amount of $XX
from XX (i.e. NSERC) to take effect on (DATE). I also understand this funding is for the
research work being done at the University. As such the amount of monies contributed to your
annual salary from my research account will be reduced by _XX___ such that the new annual
salary contributed from my research account will be XX.
Your total level of funding shall remain the same as the $XX contributed from my research
account and the $XX contributed from the external agency (NAME - XX) total an overall
compensation level of $XX
Please note that all of your benefits specified in the offer letter of ___________will be based on
the combined funding amount of $XXX (both internal and external sources). This will have a
direct impact on both your death benefits and the Group RSP benefit. Both of these benefits
will be derived directly from the total funding amount of $XXX per year. As such, should your
external funding change in any way during the period of your employment, you are required to
notify myself, human resources and the Office of Research Services immediately as this may
change your compensation payout.
All other terms and conditions outlined in your original offer letter shall remain the same.
Please contact your Research Account Support Officer to confirm the logistics of this
arrangement and any other paperwork that needs to be completed.
