Position: Instructional Administrator
Permanent Full-Time Position

Reporting to Department Head of Education, this position acts as an entry level school principal, coordinating the affairs
and expansion of the Capilano Little Ones School. Responsible for a growing faculty (e.g. 11-20 staff plus professional
service providers such as Speech & Language Pathologist, Art Therapist, Sensory Therapists, tutors and Neuro-
psychologist), this position will manage a growing student base of 60 to 150 children (K to 3) over the next three to five
years. It is responsible for the management of a new facility and for the long run development and integration of a
Squamish Language Immersion program within the school. Committee and community work is a significant part of the
role including representation on the Parents Advisory Council, School Based Resource Team, Community Volunteers and
INAC. This position represents the department on FNSA and, from time to time, takes on other short term appointments
to inter-departmental committees or external advisories as requested. The position is also responsible for grant
applications, reporting, child assessments, complaints, nutrition, health and safety.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
Develops operating framework and annual goals.
Administers affairs of the school.
Oversees adherence to curriculum and instructional objectives.
Supervises staff.
Manages budgets, funding applications and final reports.
Coordinates school expansion process.
Manages space and equipment.
Manages enrollment.
Coordinates child assessments.
Acts as school liaison and builds relationships with parents and community.
Manages food program.
Coordinates Health and Safety programs.
Adheres to workplace health & safety policies, safe work practices and procedures.
Participates as a member of the North Vancouver Education team.
Education, Level of Experience & Hiring Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, First Nations Studies, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or Human
Development, etc.
Certificates in Special Needs, Infant & Toddler, First Aid, Infant and Child CPR Certification are required.
Plus Seven (7) years of directly-related experience in a the majority of specialties listed in this job description
including K to 12 curriculum/program management, instructional staff supervision and facilities administration
in a child care or educational setting.
As career progresses, incumbent will be required to successfully complete job-required, short-term upgrading,
training and courses relating to first nation’s early childcare, school administration, language immersion
schools, etc.
Experience as an intermediate level user of the Internet and Microsoft Applications – Outlook (Email), Word,
Excel, etc.
Working experience with a large scale computerized database system.
Experience with JD Edwards is an asset.
Previous experience working in a First Nation’s community (particularly Squamish) is preferred.
Must have a valid BC Drivers License Class 4 or 5. Class 7N may be considered.
Must have a reliable vehicle and current auto insurance.
Must provide a valid Criminal Records Check.
A combination of education and experience may substitute for above education and experience.
Salary: As per Squamish Nation Performance & Compensation Strategy.
