ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION OPENING
(CCP-19, 12-month, tenure track position)
STARTING DATE: January/February 2013
MINIMUM Master’s degree in counseling or a closely related field together with from two to five years of experience
QUALIFICATIONS: in a professional counseling capacity; or a combination of experience and training which would lead to the
competencies required for effective performance of the position’s essential duties. Incumbents are required
to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following areas: Full spectrum of
professional counseling theory, techniques and methods; personality, academic and occupational
assessment instruments, their administration and interpretation; crisis counseling and intervention; career
and academic development. Information technology literacy skills; effective oral and written
communications; experience with diverse populations.

providing appropriate references. Exceptions to the degree requirements may be made for compelling
DESIRED CT Licensed professional counselor (LPC) or LPC eligible with experience in mental health diagnoses and
QUALIFICATIONS: treatment; knowledge and direct experience working with at- risk students; knowledge and experience with
student retention services; experience with project and program management desired.
PREFERRED Knowledge and experience working in academic advising; Experience working in a higher education
QUALIFICATIONS: settings preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Counselor works under the direction of the Director of Counseling and Student Success. The position
may lead support staff, student workers, or co-workers in management of programs or projects, as assigned.
The position is required to have extensive cooperative and collaborative relationships with students, faculty,
staff and with professionals in peer organizations and professional associations. These relationships may
involve a very high degree of sensitive and confidential information. The incumbent is expected to
represent the College in a positive manner and to collaborate with academic and student services
departments to contribute to retaining students. The Counselor is accountable for contributing to the
academic, career, personal and social success of the College’s students through effective performance in
these essential functional areas: Student development programs; Student counseling; Consultation with
faculty and staff. Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on
assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and
professional meetings. All of these duties may involve attendance at evening or weekend events. Evening
and/or weekend hours may be required of this position.
STARTING SALARY: $62,613 approximate annual, plus excellent State supported fringe benefits.
