Provide your soccer player with the opportunity to take their technical skill set to the next level and
forever enhance their enjoyment of the “beautiful game” by enrolling them in the Gloucester Hornets
Winter Development Program (WDP) or the Youth Development Program (YDP) in conjunction with the
School of Soccer Brilliance.

The WDP and YDP will be run under the watchful and caring eye of Gloucester Hornets Technical Director, Mike
Lanos, a national licensed coach, former professional player, and holder of a Master’s Degree in Childhood Education.
Technical staff and squad coaches from the Ottawa Gloucester Soccer Club (OGSC), formally the Gloucester Soccer
Association (GSA), will assist in running the programs, many of whom have professional playing credentials as well as
distinguished coaching qualifications. Our junior technical coaches from the OGSC are also amongst the most
technically gifted players in the city, having all been developed at the Gloucester Hornets over the years. Suffice to
say that the quality of our coach-educators will be second to none in the province.

The structure of all our programs is designed in conjunction with, and in reference to, the Long Term Player
Development model (LTPD), a developmental framework that takes into consideration the physical, mental,
emotional and cognitive states of children at different points in their development.

Winter Development Program (Competitive)

Standard & Advanced Competitive Programs: Age 9 and up
The Standard & Advanced Competitive Programs have been designed for competitive soccer players taking into
consideration the realities of the Canadian sports environment and the needs of multi-sport athletes. Simply put, we
are looking to meet and exceed the needs of multi-sport athletes who want to continue to excel and develop in the
sport of soccer while exploring the many other sporting activities available to them throughout their youth. At the
same time our design is flexible in allowing the single sport athlete opportunities to focus solely on his or her chosen
sport where that athlete has made a decision to do so.
 One weekly 90-minute technical turf session at the Superdome.
 One weekly 60-90 minute gym session that will focus on “street soccer” and “Futsal”. While we encourage
all participants to make these sessions, attendance will not be mandatory in recognition of the fact that other
sports take precedence for many players during the winter.
 Optional participation in local indoor soccer leagues.
 Optional small sided and full field “friendlies” arranged by staff coaches.
 All participants must wear: WDP t-shirt (provided) black shorts and white socks

Cost for the Standard & Advanced Competitive Programs: $320

Academy Programs: Select Age Groups
Academy programs this year will run at several age groups – U12, U13, U14, 15, U16 and U17 Boys and U12, 13 and
16 Girls - with the intention of providing more elite training opportunities to those players who have chosen soccer
as their primary focus. There will be an expectation that Academy players will attend 80% of the sessions during this
year, with the program consisting of:

Sunday sessions allocated by the Technical Director.
 One weekly gym session that will focus on “street soccer” and “Futsal”. Again, while we encourage all
participants to make these sessions, attendance will not be mandatory.
 Preparation for European tours and major international tournaments at several age groups.
 All participants must wear: WDP T-shirt (provided), black shorts and white socks

Cost for the Academy Program: $575

Over and apart from the core of our Academy training programs, these programs will also consist of:

 Participation in either local indoor soccer leagues and/or full-field friendlies against top opposition from
across Ontario, Quebec and the United States
 Participation in the Ontario Indoor Cup Provincial Championships.
     Participation in elite tournaments
 Costs for these additional components will be determined as the seasonal plan is shaped.

Goalkeeping Academy: Age 12 to 14
Our GK Academy will be run under the direction of every child’s favorite provincially certified goalkeeping coach,
“Razor” Ray Martel along with Shane “Spiderman” Goski. The full year program will be aimed at our goalkeepers
aged, 12 through 18. Please contact the Club Head Coach if you are looking for an exception to these age limitations.
The program will consist of:

 One weekly 90-minute session at the Superdome
 All participants must wear: WDP t-shirt (provided), black shorts and white socks.

Cost for the Goalkeeping Academy: $235

*Out of club players are required to make an additional $50 donation to the Pat Dinardo Benevolence Fund

*Registration fees for the Goalkeeping Academy will be waived for those players registered in the Standard & Advanced
Competitive and Academy programs.

Player Placement Process

Players will be grouped according to developmental level (i.e. Standard or Advanced Competitive) to the best of our
ability. The Gloucester Hornets have put in place an ongoing and sustainable evaluation process for all players that is
supported and utilized by the coaching staff at all levels of play. As such, the following factors will be used in the
selection of players for our competitive teams at the Gloucester Hornets and for placement in the WDP:

     Past performance and assessments
 Fall Assessments - in advance of the start of WDP, participants may be asked to attend assessment sessions
at specific age groups where a variety of measurements (technical, tactical, physical) will be utilized to best
place the player for developmental purposes. Most of these sessions will take place in late September and
        early October.
 Players new to the Gloucester Hornets whom our coaches have not previously assessed will be subject to a
two-week trial period so they may be assessed and properly placed. In the event that a developmentally
appropriate placement in our WDP cannot be made for a player following this trial period, a full refund will
        be issued.
 Please note that players may be moved during the WDP, as assessments are ongoing.

Please Note

All age groups are based on how old the player will be in the 2013 summer season

All dates, times and field allocations are tentative until the program calendar and
registration numbers are finalized. Please refer to the Gloucester Hornets website
(www.gloucesterhornets.ca) for confirmed training sessions.
Participants must wear YDP t-shirt (provided), black soccer shorts, white socks, shin pads, cleats and have a
properly inflated soccer ball (size 3 for Wee Bees and Soccer Tots and size 4 for Junior Youth Development).

Youth Development Program (Recreational)

Our Youth Development Program (YDP) will be run under the School of Soccer Brilliance for children ages 5 to 11.
These programs will feature one weekly 60-minute session at the Superdome and will put a huge emphasis on skill
development in a FUN and recreational atmosphere. It is our hope that all of our participants will return to their
summer Gloucester Dragons or Hornets teams in 2013 with a little more “sting” in their shots and a greater love for
the game!

Wee Bees: Age 5 and 6
 Emphasis will be on fundamental movement skills, “ball mastery”, dribbling techniques, laughter and a variety of
  small-sided games.
 The goal of this program is to develop the child’s overall athleticism, together with building a foundation of
soccer specific abilities in a recreational environment.
 A parent or caregiver must be present at all times and be ready, willing and able to participate with their child
  when asked to.

Soccer Tots: Age 7 and 8
 Emphasis will be on fundamental movement skills, “ball mastery”, dribbling techniques, laughter and a variety of
   small-sided games.
 The goal of this program is to put the emphasis on “fun with the ball” with the children learning to master
movement skills using games with simple rules.

Junior Youth Development: Age 9 through 11 (for players not involved in the WDP)
 Emphasis will be on building more technical skills and 1 v 1 moves through a variety of small sided games,
including some full 1/3 field games with goalkeepers.

Cost for YDP: $235

Schedule

YDP will take place at the Superdome in two segments over a 15-week period:

    1: Sunday Oct 21st to Sunday Dec 23rd, 2012 (10 weeks)
                    th
