How do I change the battery?

Will I have to change the battery?
Probably. The Library provides two batteries with each Playaway. (See the above instructions for how to
load a battery.) The length of each book varies and one battery may not last the length of an entire Adult
book, so you may need to change the battery. Both batteries should be returned with your unit as they are
rechargeable and will be used again.

How do I know how much battery life is left in my unit?
If the battery runs out during your listening session, your Playaway will automatically shut off. In order to
monitor the life left in your battery, the Playaway LCD screen has a small battery icon that is displayed when
the unit is turned on. There are three levels of battery life reflected in the icon. When one bar is left in the
battery icon, you have 20% power left.

Can I use any set of headphones?
Yes. Playaway was designed with a universal headphone jack to work with almost any type of headphones,
speakers or car adapters.

Can I use Playaway in my car?
Yes. Playaway was specifically designed to use most commonly available cassette adapters and FM
transmitters. The Library has car adapters available that you may borrow at the Circulation Desk.

How do I use the lanyard?
You can attach a lanyard to your Playaway by looking at the front of the Playaway (the book cover) and
locating the lanyard attachment area at the narrow top of the player. There are two versions of lanyard
attachments; one is a hole, and the other is a clip. Instructions for each follow:

If your Playaway has an opening for a Or, if you have a model with a lanyard clip, pull
lanyard, just thread the lanyard through the clip up from the top of the unit and thread
one end and loop to attach. the lanyard through the clip.
I have the version of Playaway without the power button. If I set additional bookmarks, how do I
remove them?
In order to remove previous bookmarks you must press the bookmark button at the time you are viewing
the bookmark on the LCD screen. There is no way to remove all bookmarks at one time.

What do I do if my Playaway locks up?
Like any good storyteller, sometimes the Playaway just needs a moment to catch its breath. First, turn it on
and off. If that doesn't solve the problem, remove and reinsert the battery.

My Playaway will not turn on. What do I do?
First, we recommend inserting a fresh battery. If the player still does not turn on, please return it to the
Library.
