POSITION TITLE: Paralegal
SERVICE DATES: 450 hours through August 31, 2013

About Kentucky Service Corps (KSC): For this position, KSC members will help address unmet community
needs by serving with the nonprofit organization The Nature Conservancy of Kentucky. Members increase the
capacity of this organization to provide needed services to Kentucky citizens. Members will engage in an
experience that will foster a lifelong ethic of civil responsibility. AmeriCorps members will serve 450 hours
between now and August 31, 2013 and receive an education award of $1,468.
About The Nature Conservancy (TNC): The Nature Conservancy is an international conservation organization.
The mission of TNC is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life
on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. In Kentucky, The Nature Conservancy owns or
manages over 40 nature preserves. TNC will provide skills and professional development training, opportunities
to build your resume, and mentorship.
Become an AmeriCorps member and help The Nature Conservancy protect and manage important habitat in
Kentucky. This position will advance our mission in Kentucky by assisting the Director of Protection to organize
and facilitate real estate closings throughout the state.
Members will provide support to the Director of Protection with activities including, but not limited to, drafting legal
documents for review, review appraisals, surveys and title commitments, organizing files, preparing
correspondence and drafting internal reports.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS:
High school diploma required. Some paralegal course work required. Legal real estate experience
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Ability to hike in remote locations.
Computer skills including Word, Excel and the ability to learn TNC internal programs
Willingness to use academic and life experience to benefit TNC.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
Work independently with the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
Successfully pass any required background screenings.
Maintain the confidentiality of any information he/she encounters.
Team player with commitment to community and national service.
Ability to serve cooperatively with a number of staff, volunteers, and external parties, sometimes under
pressure, in order to complete project goals in a timely manner.
Ability to perform physical service, sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather.
Must have valid drivers license, safe driving record, and a reliable vehicle for transportation.
Sensitive to issues of geographic and cultural diversity.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The AmeriCorps Paralegal Assistant will likely be located in an office setting but may
involve limited work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and
under physically demanding circumstances.
TRAVEL: Occasional day travel may be required.
REQUIRED by AmeriCorps and KSC:
Members will complete the service listed on the Service Placement/Site Supervisor Verification Form.
Members will complete the number of hours listed on their Kentucky Service Corps member contract.
Members will submit a monthly service reflection form that also includes data of numbers served and
Members will complete an end of year self-evaluation
Members will complete an end of year survey.
Members will complete all paperwork necessary for AmeriCorps and Kentucky Service Corps
