          Molecular orbitals
• All four atomic orbitals of the 2nd shell are
  rearranged as four molecular orbitals
  known as sp3
• In a tetrahedral arrangement
• They all have the same energy level,
  which is the average of all the atomic
  orbitals
• An sp3 hybridised atom is formed
       Planar triangular shape
                  or
        bond angles of 120°
• 2s and 2 of the 2p-orbitals used to form
  three sp2 molecular orbitals
• Overlapping sp2-orbitals form σ-bonds (= a
  ”single” bond in double bond)
• Remaining p-orbital overlap with adjacent
  p-orbital to form a higher energy level π-
  bond (= reactive bond in a double bond)
Still just one bond
Ethylene = ethene
    Linear shaped molecules
• The 2s and one of the three 2p orbitals
  make up two molecular sp orbitals
• Remaining two atomic 2p orbitals make up
  two π-bonds with 2p orbitals of adjacent
  atom/atoms
