Associate Solicitor
Job Description
Reporting to: Partner
The key responsibility of an Associate Solicitor is to advise clients on all aspects of specific area of
law and to contribute to the management of the specific department working under their own
initiative in all aspects law and able to supervise, train, and manage others within the department.
This will include, but will not be limited to, the main responsibilities given below.
Main Responsibilities
1. Ensure Clients are regularly updated and advised at appropriate points
2. Process matters effectively and in a timely manner
3. Maintain an adequate filing system
4. Undertake regular housekeeping in respect of files to ensure billing is up to date, WIP is accurate
and prompt closure of files takes place
5. Managing client ledgers and compliance with the solicitor’s accounting rules
6. Respond efficiently and promptly to queries and correspondence
7. Meet all Statutory and Case Law deadlines
8. Accurately record time on client files and meet the firm’s costs/time targets
9. Liaise with barristers and other experts as necessary
10. Ensure all work is checked and adequately supervised and post/other documents are approved
before being sent out of the office
11. Attend court/conferences as required by the department and other fee earners within the office
as necessary
12. Undertake regular housekeeping in respect of files to ensure prompt closure of files takes place
13. Build relationships with clients and internal contacts on behalf of the team and attend
networking events as required
14. Supervise and delegate tasks to the Legal Secretary
15. Comply with the firm’s requirement for all files to be regularly reviewed by the fee earner and
supervisors as necessary
16. Undertake regular professional training as required by the Law Society and secure membership of
relevant panels and retain the same. Also undertake any additional training as required by the
firm (for example IT training)

17. Process and handle client’s complaints as necessary in accordance with procedure
18. Delegate work as considered appropriate and report to supervising partners and the partnership
generally
19. Attend all departmental meetings within the office and Inter office meetings from time to time
20. Cascade information/training received to benefit other members of the Team and ensure
continuity of work practices and procedures

Person Specification
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Fully qualified Solicitor, admitted to the Law Society
Have previous fee earning experience
Have a high level of confidentiality
Ability to plan, monitor and evaluate workload
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to explain legal matters clearly
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
Be able to demonstrate good IT skills
Personal Attributes
Possess analytical and problem solving skills
Be reliable and diligent with good attention to detail
Good interpersonal skills
A positive approach to working under pressure in a busy environment
