highlighting its expertise in laser marking additives for plastics manufacture at PDM12, the Plastics
Design and Moulding 2012 at ExCel, London 29-30 May.
Greg Hammond, regional technical services and applications manager at Gabriel-Chemie UK is
presenting an educational seminar entitled Laser Marking and Polymer Selection in the morning of
day two of the PDM Summit. Helping to pass on some of Gabriel-Chemie’s in-depth knowledge and
expertise in this area, he will cover material optimisation, the different marking effects available
with direct laser marking, the composition of dark marks and light marks as well as polymer specific
behaviours. He will also cover laser marking of black and coloured polymers, transparent laser
marking additives and laser welding.
Laser marking will also feature prominently on the Gabriel-Chemie stand (number P23) at PDM,
where the company will be demonstrating its Laser Additive Range, marking a VDI swatch that shows
designers different surface textures. Gabriel-Chemie is working together with Gemini Prototyping
Ltd which has provided the mould for the part along with Trumpf Limited which will be providing the
table top laser marker. During the show visitors will be able to see different shapes, colours and
textures of moulded plastic parts marked with a VDI mould reference number and their own
company name on request.
“Laser marking is proving increasingly popular for plastic parts in applications as diverse as medical
devices where security is key, to cosmetics where innovation and visual appeal are paramount,” says
Philip Watkins, Managing Director of Gabriel-Chemie UK. “We offer a wide range of laser marking
additives for polymers and it remains essential to choose the right polymer and additive to achieve
the required results.”
As well as sharing its expertise in laser marking, members of the Gabriel-Chemie UK team will be
available throughout PDM12 to offer advice on additives for improving aesthetic and performance
properties in applications as diverse as cosmetics packaging, agriculture and construction products,
food packing, consumer goods and sports equipment.
