Report on events!
Beers and Brains; 15th October
Thank you for everyone attending our Beer and Brains, this was a great event and well attended thank
you for the support, we raised over £100 for the club. A great start to the year!

Group Debating
 We came 4th in a joint team with Clawton Young Farmers, with Ashley Furze from Clawton going
through to the next round. Well done Joey Curtis and Jackie Curtis for taking part.

New Members Evening; 20th October
We have kick started our new year with our new members evening. We had fun and plenty of laughs
playing games and getting to know the officers, leaders and other members of the club.

County Hockey; 30th October
We entered with a mixed team from Clawton along with Jacob Johns, Ben Hutchings, Barnie Bridgman,
Chloe Malcolm and Jackie Curtis from Shebbear. Unfortunately we didn’t win our league, despite having
fun, more practice next year I think!

South West Area
This year south west area is in Weston Super Mare. On Friday 9th – Sunday 11th March. This is a young
farmer members weekend for all members over 16 within the south west area. Friday nights dance is a
smart casual theme 9pm-2am, £8. Saturdays night is fancy dress ‘Your Hero’ 9pm-2am, £8. Sundays
pantomime final is at 2pm, £8. Book your place now!

Scholarships
Each year a Junior (-18) and Senior (18 - 26) Group will travel with other young farmers from county to
a Country. This experience is an extraordinary, with a week full of learning the culture, traditions and
way of life of another Country. The Seniors have travelled to Switzerland and Holland and this year they
are travelling to Hungary. The Juniors travelling to Sweden and Estonia and this years destination is yet
to be confirmed. The trips are organised with the equivalent of Young Farmers. For applications ask
either Lisa or Jackie.

Alongside this we are currently invited to visit Austria, English in Action project for 15 - 20 years and
home stays to Montana and Colorado for individuals travelling for 6 weeks to 3 months. Also there is a
Junior Activities weekend for members aged 16 and under for a fun filled weekend with members
throughout the South West (Cornwall, Dorset, Gloucester, Somerset and Wiltshire).

Pantomime
This year we are doing a pantomime with Clawton Young Farmers. The first meeting is on the 9th
November to discuss the script and parts on stage. We will need backstage helpers so if you don’t
feel like going on stage then you can help make the scenery. There is also a fundraiser to raise funds
for the scenery, Curry and Quiz night on December 3rd at Ashwater Village Hall.

Ice Skating
This is a great evening event to meet members from other clubs from all around Devon. The tickets
are £4.50 each- what a bargain! Let Jackie know if you want a ticket.

Combat Disco
As it is 10 years on from Foot and Mouth when the armed forces came and helped the farmers we
decided to show our support to them. This disco is to raise money for Help for Heroes. With BK
Discos!

Coffee Morning
On Saturday 19th November we will be holding our first Coffee Morning in Shebbear Village Hall,
10am. A Big Breakfast and tea and coffee and a selection of treats will be on sale. Along with some
competitions and Cake Decorating; Boys vs Girls- This tasty competition will probably get messy at
some stage. The boys are being challenged by the girls to see who can decorate the best cake. While
the girls are going to see if they can bring on the challenge by seeing who can clay pigeon shoot the
best later on in the year!
Crealy Challenge
From 7pm till late county has exclusive use of the ‘Adventure Zone’ and one of the rides! For only £4!
Everyone is welcome you don’t have to take art in the challenge. Places limited so book your place
now.

   21st November- Christmas Challenge- Lewdown, Chicken Bingo

   2nd December- Lewdown Winter Party
   3rd December- Curry and Quiz night, Ashwater Village Hall
   17th December- County Christmas Ball
