Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Parade Remains One of Cities Oldest Annual Events
Colorado Springs (CO) – July 2, 2012 – The streets of downtown Colorado Springs have changed quite a
bit in the last 71 years. The area has evolved into a bustling, metropolitan hub, where horses and
cowboys are far from the minds of locals. That is except for when the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Parade
rolls through town. The Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Parade is the oldest special event in Colorado Springs
and this year’s 72nd Annual is just around the corner.
The event, which has served as the annual kick-off event to the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo for the past
72 years, has changed some as well. Over the years the parade has gone from being hosted the
Saturday morning before the rodeo to its current night before the first rodeo performance slot.
Organizers feel the evening parade gets the community more involved and supports local downtown
businesses more effectively. While schedules have changed, the Parade itself remains a constant staple
in Colorado Springs summer tradition. Since its inception the Parade has donated its proceeds to local
military charities and scholarship programs.
In the 2011 event, honoring American Heroes, there were numerous military units, hundreds of horses,
marching groups, bands, beautiful floats and plenty of clowns on hand. While the Parade helps support
local military charities, it also gives life to the inner cowboy in us all and promotes our western
heritage. If nowhere else, for one evening, every city girl and business man can smell the saddle
leather, hear the clapping of hooves and feel their heart strings tug a bit at the thought of being a
