2009 Summer Evening Series
Every Thurs. Evening from May 7th to Aug. 27th
The Lake Washington Sailing Club is hosting our Summer Evening (Beer Can) series on the following
Thursdays: May 7th, 14th, 21st , and 28th, June 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th, July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th, and
August 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th. Lake Washington is the turning basin for the Port of Sacramento. One can
expect the delta breeze to be around 10 knots with the occasional 20 knot day. The cool delta breeze
makes sailing at Lake Washington a welcome relief from the 100 degree temps that fry the rest of the
Sacramento area, yet the warm water keeps the wetsuit in the locker. There really is no better time to sail
at Lake Washington. Our facilities include a clubhouse with a large deck, a launch ramp, and an eight
hundred pound capacity hoist. This regatta is open to any centerboard sailboat under 20ft length.
Schedule for each Day
5:50 p.m. Skippers meeting on the clubhouse porch
6:00 p.m. First Warning
8:00 p.m. Final race start deadline
Entry & Fees
The entry fee is $20 US for the series. The entry fee will cover all racing and regatta awards. The entry
fee for a single evening is $5.
Up to five, short-course races are scheduled for each day with the first warning at 6:00 p.m. Racing will
be held under the 2009 to 2012 US Sailing, ISAF and the sailing instructions rules.
If the wind cooperates, 4 of the 18 Thursdays, instead of racing, the evening will be used for practice and
training. Drills to practice tacking, starts, mark roundings, penalty turns, and other boat handling skills
will be done instead. These dates will revert from practice days to racing days every time there is a day
lost to un-sailable wind conditions to ensure we keep 14 racing days. Assuming good wind, the dates for
these practice days are: May 7th, May 28th, July 2nd, July 30th. They will revert to racing days in a first-to-
last order so that the first/next practice day will revert to a racing day after an un-sailable day.
Scoring and Classes
Three boats at seven separate racing evenings (not practice nights) will constitute a class for the season
championship and for a single evening. Smaller classes will sail in a Portsmouth division.
Awards will be awarded at the awards pizza/beer bash after the series (not yet scheduled) and include the
following awards for each qualifying class:
Each evening winner
Each race winner
