Summary of Charges and Initiatives 2011-2012
1. Assign PPC members to write articles for ADVANCE for the “ASCLS Voice” online column
(coordinate with Executive VP).
2. Ensure that all promotional materials available online
3. Promote ASCLS materials for NMLPW and provide resources for members with NMLPW
activities.
4. Work with Past President (Media Responder) to be a resource to help respond to the media.
5. Work with ASCLS Director of Education on methods to publish articles promoting the
profession in newspapers and PSA announcements on radio and television.
6. Develop at least two (2) “canned” Power Point presentations, articles, letters for community
audiences, including AARP, Ladies Home Journal and other publications and venues that will
educate the public about laboratory testing and the role of the laboratory professional.
7. Propose a session on “how to respond to the media, how to get PSAs and other materials into
media” for the 2012 annual meeting.
8. Develop a fund raising campaign for an appropriate charitable organization to be held in
conjunction with the 2012 annual meeting.
9. Work with the Millennial Retention Task Force to combine social responsibility types of
activities (fund-raising) with member recruitment.
Activities To Date 2011-2012
1. Conference calls are scheduled for the fourth Tuesday of each month. Held conference calls in
February, March, April and May with excellent participation by the committee.
2. Identified ASCLS Voice topics and authors for Advance online through Fall 2012 and
submitted to Executive Vice President for approval. Special thanks to Linda Laatsch for her
work on this task.
3. Submitted updates for the website to Joan Polancic which include adding a lateral navigation
list, a section for Provide the Face initiatives, and additional activities of the PPC.
4. Forwarded articles to media responder and PPC member Marcia Armstrong for rebuttal or
response.
5. Presented Discover MLS! during CLEC in Salt Lake City in coordination with ASCLS Staff
Joan Polancic and ASCLS meeting management. This was a panel presentation comprised
mainly of PPC members targeting High School guidance counselors and science teachers in
the Salt Lake City area. Held February 23rd , there were 13 attendees, and received positive

comments on the program evaluation. Special thanks to sponsors ARUP and Weber State
University.
6. Preparing to host ASCLS Provides HOPE in Los Angeles with the Kids in Need Foundation,
once again supporting a Back to School drive during the annual meeting.
7. PPC member Margaret Alba collated and submitted items for Kudo’s, published as space
permits in ASCLS today, for promoting the achievements of ASCLS members.
8. Provided support and encouragement for PPC member Mary Ann McLane for participation on
behalf of ASCLS in the National Science Fair.
9. Beth Warning, PPC Chair, hosted of a webinar sponsored by Advance magazine titled Getting
Results for National Medical Laboratory Week 2012.
