Bring a sharp pencil to each rehearsal.

Music Assignment Policy:
1. Music will be assigned and distributed during the semester. Students will be required to fill out a
Music Check Out Card at the time of assignment.
2. Music may be marked in PENCIL ONLY and must be carefully erased before handing in the music at
the end of the semester.
3. Music should be returned upon the final performance to the Music Department Office. Remember to
return your music promptly should you drop this class before the end of the semester to avoid
4. Lost, stolen, or damaged music will be charged a replacement fee. If a student fails to return the
music, a hold will be placed on student’s registration record.
Class Participation and Team Work – 20% (200 points possible)
Team work is an essential component in forming a successful group. Every one of you must be willing to
sacrifice “me” to better become “us.” Help each other in your sectionals and class rehearsals. Offer to
help before you’re asked.
Music Preparation – 20% (200 points possible)
As a part of your music preparation grade, you will be orally tested on all music learned during the
semester. Be prepared to sing assigned parts on your own.
Attendance – 60% (600 points possible)
Regular class attendance is mandatory and is one of the most significant elements in achieving great
choral singing since an individual absence affects the entire chorus. Unexcused absences and/or tardies
will affect your grade. Everyone begins with an A in attendance and it is up to you to keep this grade.
M561 – Chamber Chorale
1. Sign-in before each class meeting. You must sign-in to be marked present. Late comers, inform
the instructor at the end of the class.
2. Fill out an absence form immediately following your absence and turn it in with appropriate
document to prove your excused absence.
3. You are allowed a maximum of four absences (either excused or unexcused). Students with
more than four absences will be subject to an automatic drop.
4. Each excused absence will receive a deduction of 20 pts. Each unexcused absence will receive a
deduction of 40 pts.
5. Two tardies will equal one absence and early leave without permission will count as an
6. One final grade will be lowered for missing a dress rehearsal. Tardy to a dress rehearsal will
receive a deduction of 20 pts.
7. Two final grades will be lowered for missing a concert. Tardy to a concert call will receive a
deduction of 30 pts.
8. Your final grade will be calculated according to the following scale:
A 1000-900 B 899-800 C 799-700 D 699-600 F 599 or below
Performances are mandatory and absence at either the dress rehearsal or the concert will have a major
affect on your grade.

Men – Black tuxedo with white tuxedo shirt and a black bowtie, black socks and black dress shoes.
For those who do not own one consider rent or purchase. Group purchase may be possible through the
Women – Chamber Choir dress. Black dress shoes (closed toe) and hose are also required.
We will take measurements from each individual ordering tux or dress around the third week of the
semester. Orders will be placed by the fourth week and must be paid in full at the time of order.
Practice rooms are available for registered Mus 561 students. You will need a valid Cub Card to access
the facilities. Please check with the music office for hours and policies.
Note: Students with a verified disability who may need a reasonable accommodation for this class are encouraged

Absence at a concert = 150 points (2 grades lowered)
Tardy to a concert call= 20 points (30 pts)
All performances are mandatory and an unexcused absence at a performance and/or the dress rehearsal will receive
the penalty above.
If you are ill, call in advance and leave a message. If you just have a sore throat come to the rehearsal and study the
music while the choir rehearses – don’t miss the rehearsal.
Your final grade will be calculated according to the following scale:
