COURSE DESCRIPTION
Biology course is an introductory course designed to study living organisms through text and laboratory
experiences while preparing students for the End of Course Exam.

Textbook: Biology by Holt. This course includes a significant laboratory component; the lab activities are
derived from a variety of resources.

Student Supplies: The student is responsible for providing the following supplies
     Composition Notebook
     3-ring binder/folder with notebook paper (can be shared with other classes)
     Pencil
     Two items off Mrs. Herder’s Wish List (website)
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Be Prepared: Be on time and bring all assignments and needed supplies everyday.

Be Respectful: To the teacher, your classmates, and most importantly Yourself!

Be Safe: Follow all laboratory safety rules at all times. Care for school property.

Be Clean: Clean up after yourself. Keep laboratory equipment and stations clean and organized at all
times.

Follow all rules outlined in the student handbook.

GRADEING POLICY



      Tests 50%             Multiple Choice & Essay    Students are encouraged to prepare for tests.
      Labs 25%                Labs, Lab Reports,  Students are expected to actively participate in all
                                   Notebooks      laboratory experiments and complete written
                                                  assignments. Students expected to follow all
                                                  laboratory rules and procedures. Students may be
                                                  removed from the lab at anytime for inappropriate
                                                  behavior. A student who is removed from the lab
                                                  will not be allowed to make up the lab and will
                                                  receive a zero. Each student is responsible for
                                                  cleaning, maintaining, and keeping inventory of their
                                                  laboratory station.
    Quizzes 15%                                                 Announced or unannounced
   Daily grades 10%                                     Homework is due at the beginning of class.
       Late work                                    For excused absences please refer to the student
                                                    handbook. Late lab write ups and projects will be
                                                   accepted with a deduction of 20 points per day. No
                                                        late homework/daily work will be accepted.
                                                       It is the student’s responsibility to obtain
                                                                   missing assignments.
               All assignments are due at the START of class unless otherwise noted
