                                        Job description

                                         Schools Guide


The Schools Guides work as part of the Schools Partnerships at Easton College.
The guides are employed on a casual basis, paid by the hour, working with pre – booked
groups around the college farm and estate.

All the arrangements with schools are made by the Farm Education Coordinator who then
contacts the guides ahead of the visits to arrange which dates and times they can work.

Reports to: 14-16 Co Ordinator

Main duties

      To take school and other groups round the college farm and estate on pre-arranged tours
       as arranged by the Farm Education Coordinator or
      To work with groups of children on habitat studies within the college estate as arranged
       by the Farm Education Coordinator or
      To work with groups of children on horticultural activities that can be used within their
       school grounds as arranged by the Farm Education Coordinator
      To ensure that all group members are aware of health and safety issues around the site
      To put high emphasis on safety of the group at all times in compliance with the schools
       visits risk assessment
      To arrange visits that are suitable in content and with language appropriate to the age of
       the children and the study they are doing
      To work with other members of the schools team as required


Qualifications
   No specific qualifications are required; however Schools Guides need to have some
       knowledge of farming and the countryside or habitats or gardening. Training will be
       given around the farm, estate and on working with groups.
       Schools Guides have to plan their tours / projects within guide lines which are provided in
        the handbook


Personal Specification

      Experience of being with groups of children
      An understanding and knowledge of farming and the countryside or horticulture
      Good timekeeper
      Enjoy outdoor work in all weathers
      Good oral communication skills
      Flexible
      To be able to work with minimum of supervision
      All schools guides must have a satisfactory CRB check
