Course Syllabus N104 Hand Reflexology Ontario College of Reflexology Course Time, Dates & Location: Sunday, 8:30 am to 3:00 pm (dates to be announced) 2350 New Street, Unit 24 Burlington, On (parking available) Instructor: Bonnie Smith RRPr RT-CRA 905-639-5980 (available for calls between 8:30 am and 7:00 pm) Email: firstname.lastname@example.org www.soulsjourney.ca Course Description: 35 hour in class instruction We will review and explore theory, anatomy and physiology of the body systems and their corresponding reflexes of the hand. Course Fee: $780.00 This includes textbook and exam fees. (Fees for this course are eligible Tax Credits) FULL FEE IS REQUIRED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE FIRST CLASS. Payment may be made in the form of CASH OR CERTIFIED CHEQUE OR MONEY ORDER made out to the Ontario College of Reflexology NEW Credit Card payments are now accepted – Visa, MasterCard, Amex This form of payment must be made two week prior to the first class You must contact Bonnie Smith if you choose this form of payment Exams: This fee includes your text, your class time and all exams and evaluation fees Class Attendance & Withdrawals from Program Attendance for the five day course is mandatory. Please read the refund policy carefully on the last page Course Objectives: By the end of the course you will be able to: Define reflexology and explain zone theory to clients List the functions and organs of the following body systems: skeletal, muscular, endocrine, urinary, digestive, reproductive, respiratory, immune/lymphatic, nervous Examine the foot for pathological conditions and document such conditions following the supplied charting example Locate and label the reflexes on all surfaces of the feet Perform a pre-set foot reflexology routine using thumb walking and reflex hooking Course Expectations I am very much aware of the day to day demands that are filling yours lives. However, you have made a financial investment in this program and your success will be determined by your effort. You will be assigned homework for each class to supplement and reinforce the course material. There is no mark for homework completion but the readings will prepare you for the next class. Students will be expected to: ♣ Be prompt ♣ Complete the reading assignments for each class ♣ Review previous class work ♣ Have questions prepared for the next class ♣ Give peer feedback in a respectful way ♣ Practice the technical skills for each session ♣ Ask for help if you need it ♣ Bring your sense of humour to each class ☺ The Student will be required to bring to class: ♣ N201 manual ♣ large old towel / small spray bottle with a 50:50 blend of witch hazel & water, baby wipes (non scented) ♣ red and a blue pen ♣ Highlighters – pink, blue, yellow and green ♣ Lunch ♣ Comfortable clothing (layers are good) PLEASE NOTE: Nails are to be short. You may not wear rings when doing the practical work so please leave your valuables at home. Please refrain from wearing any perfume or aftershave. Cells phones are to be turned off during class time. Required Text: Bisson, D. (2000, 2010) -- N201 Hand Reflexology, New Liskeard, On: Ontario College of Reflexology (To be supplied by the instructor) Course Components: The N101 course consist of a 35 hour component as well a 70 session independent practical component. Mid-Term practical competed when 15-20 case studies have been completed the theory exam, mid-term practical and final practical must be completed within one year of the last class. Any request for extensions must be made directly to the College. Course Schedule: DATES FOR CLASSES READING REQUIRED FOR CLASS Day 1 Chapter 1 History and Theory Chapter 2 Zones Chapter 3 Hand Examinations Chapter 4 Techniques Chapter 5 Health Records Day 2 Chapter 6 Skeletal System Chapter 7 Muscular System Chapter 8 Endocrine System Day 3 Chapter 9 Urinary System Chapter 10 Reproductive System Chapter 11 Digestive System Day 4 Chapter 12 Circulatory System Chapter 13 Lymphatic and Immune System Chapter 14 Respiratory System Day 5 Chapter 15 Nervous System Full Hand Reflexology Session on you and your partner The afternoon portions of the class will hands on practical lessons It is strongly suggested that students register and pick up their manuals at least two weeks prior to starting the class in order to get started on the readings. Please not that there must be a minimum of 2 students enrolled or class may be cancelled. Testing and Assessment Written Exam: A date will be set for the written exam. You may not use your text book for the written theory examination. You must complete your exam within a one year deadline. If you do not write your exam with your class you must wait until another class sets an exam date. Please be aware that classes are held on a supply and demand basis. All efforts will be made by your instructor to ensure you have ample opportunities to write your exam. The exam consists of true and false, multiple choice fill in the blank, label the diagrams and short answers questions. This exam is marked by the College. Any questions regarding your marks should be addressed to the College. When you have completed 15-20 case studies you will meet with your instructor for your open book mid-term practical exam. When you have completed your 70 case studies contact your teacher once again for your final closed book practical exam. Your routine should be memorized by this point. You will be marked on your session records and the quality of the routine. This mark is determined by your instructor but must be verified by the College. Any questions regarding your mark should be addressed to the College Marking: You must achieve an average of 80% on both the written and the practical exams. Please note: You must give your instructor 48 hours’ notice if you cannot attend either exam or the midterm evaluation. Failure to give 48 hours’ notice will result in a loss of your exam fee. You will then be required to pay a fee of $60.00 to complete any of the exams or evaluation.
