SCPC Quick Facts
School Community Partnership Council (SCPC) was created in 1973 to encourage active TUSD school involvement, unity of action and support, and mutually effective communication between school communities, the Superintendent, and the Governing Board. SCPC’s role is to obtain available factual information concerning issues that have been raised, to thoroughly examine all sides of such issues in an impartial manner, and to make well-reasoned recommendations to the Governing Board on matters relating to the educational process. http://www.tusd.k12.az.us/contents/distinfo/history93/history7.html SCPC consists of a District Council and four Area Councils. Area Councils consist of school representatives from the schools in that area, determined by the geographic feeder patterns of area high schools. School Representatives attend monthly Area Council SCPC meetings (7), bring school news to the Area Council, and report back to schools with District information. Area Council members typically are represented by: • a school representative from each site, selected by the school principal and parent organization, and/or • a school council representative from each site, selected by the School Council from its membership. The District Council is composed, in part, of three representatives from each of the four Area Councils (http://www.tusd.k12.az.us/contents/distinfo/scpc/Documents/bylaws.doc). Area Council elections take place at the first meeting in the fall (September Orientation): • The Area MODERATOR presides at the six remaining Area meetings, prepares an agenda for the meetings, and performs all other duties usually pertaining to the office. • The Area CO-MODERATOR presides at Area meetings in the absence of the moderator and acts as an aide to the moderator. The moderator may appoint the co-moderator to serve in his/her behalf on District Committees or other functions as needed. • The Area SECRETARY records the minutes of Area meetings which are then shared with the District Council. September-elected Area leaders (12), April-elected District leaders (4), and Standing Committee Chairs comprise the District-level Council. SCPC operates under the auspices of the Governing Board and follows Open Meeting Law procedures. "The School Community Partnership Council (SCPC) invites all residents of Tucson Unified School District (TUSD), including parents, educators, and all other community members, as individuals, to join together with the common goal of providing the children of the community with the highest quality education possible. To this end, the District Council encourages community involvement in a constructive fashion. The District Council understands its position as an advisory group in a partnership with the Governing Board and pledges itself to be thorough and objective in handling any matters it undertakes." SCPC Bylaws-Preamble Providing SCPC leadership is a powerful way to contribute to our district's ongoing transformation efforts. Further information is provided on SCPC’s Website (http://www.tusd.k12.az.us/contents/distinfo/scpc/about.asp).
