Weeks Library University of South Dakota Vermillion, SD A Typology of Collection Development Decision Metrics There is a growing awareness in academic libraries that collection development policies (CDPs) need to consider the role of paperback volumes. This study examines the CDPs of 37 college and university libraries, chosen based upon the variety of ideas presented in their collection policies. The strategies identified through the content analysis of the library CDPs are presented as a typology representing four different purchasing logics. Interviews focused on information literacy programs, media center staffing, library resources, collection management, and administrative support.
