SUBJECT: Archives Activity Report for October to November, 2001.
1. That the October to November, 2001 Archives Activity Report be received for information.
The following were donated during October and November:
Hamilton’s Other Railway, by Charles Cooper;
A Century of Caring: A History of the Ontario Hospital School in Orillia, by Janet Shea;
Cemetery Transcriptions of Innisfil Township;
Wesleyan Methodist Baptismal Register;
“Sum of his Thoughts: Poems, Observations & Heartfelt Expressions of Archibald Francis

The following were purchased during November:
Barrie Examiner newspapers on microfilm, 1930-1940;
Enterprise and Collingwood Messenger newspapers on microfilm, 1882-1886, 1888-1896.
The following were processed into the Archives collection during October and November:
Cabinet photograph, “Tom Thumb’s Wedding,” Alliston, c. 1912;
Postcard by J. W. Bald, of “The Old Huron Trail,” Camp Kichekawana;
County of Simcoe Assessment Roll, Street Index, and Name Index, 1996 (microfiche);
“The Descendants of John Mix and Unis Gaffield of Cramahe from 1797.”
The following were de-accessioned from the Archives collection during October and November:
Miscellaneous newspapers outside collections mandate (England, South Africa, Toronto,

Staff received training on electronic mail, word processing and spreadsheet programs as part of the
Corporation’s technology upgrade initiative.
The Archivist attended on, October 13th, the Open House of the Municipal Archives Interest Group
at the City of Cambridge Archives. The Archivist gave a presentation on the MAIG Directory
project, which he has undertaken on behalf of the group. The Open House also featured a business
meeting and a tour of the host archives.
The Archivist attended the ARCH 1001 workshop “Arrangement and Description of Records,”
which was held in Ottawa October 20-21st, and the ARCH 1002 workshop on “Records
Management,” which was held in London November 17-18th. These courses are part of the core
program of the post-appointment Professional Development Training Program of the Archives
Association of Ontario.
Outreach / Education:
The Assistant Archivist gave an orientation lecture to the Bradford-West Gwillimbury Historical
Society at the Bradford Public Library on November 8th. This lecture prepared the Society for its
use of the Archives’ resources in its local history publication project.
Archives Awareness Week:
Debate on Bill 116, An Act to proclaim Archives Awareness Week, took place in the Ontario
Legislature on November 8th. Members of Provincial Parliament Joseph Tascona (Barrie-Simcoe-
Bradford) and Garfield Dunlop (Simcoe North) both addressed the legislature eloquently, and at
some length, on the history and contributions of the Simcoe County Archives.
