NCT Nearly New Sale – Autumn/Winter

REGISTRATION - SELLERS NUMBER
Have you registered?
Due to sellers increasing in number and many surnames either being similar or the same, we
are now using a Seller’s Number system, which means that you must be registered in
advance and can not just come along on the day. Other reasons for this change are:
Decreases any mix up of items at the end of the sale.
Help volunteers with efficiency time in collation - volunteers are very tired at the end of
the day and numbers are easier.
Gives anonymity to sellers.
Once a sellers number has been given, it can be used each sale, this reduces
paperwork for both seller and the NCT NNS Co-ordinator as no formal registration form
will be completed.
YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO CONFIRM YOU ARE SELLER AT EACH SALE, OR IF YOU
WISH TO WITHDRAW FROM THE SALE ALTOGEHER SO YOUR NUMBER CAN BE RE-
ALLOCATED. IF YOU HAVE NOT REGISTERED IN ADVANCE, YOU MAY BE TURNED
AWAY ON THE DAY.
You will need to sign a disclaimer form on the day to confirm you have read these guidelines
and abide by any decision made on the day.
How to register
You can register either by telephone or email. Your details, such as your address and who
you wish your cheque to be made payable to, will be taken and saved on a database. You
will be given a sellers number when this information has been taken. If it cannot be done
immediately, the NNS Co-ordinator will return your call/e-mail to gain these details from you.
REGISTRATION ON THE DAY
Registration as a seller and dropping off items for sale will take place between 10am and
11.30am on the morning of the sale.
Please bring with you:
£3 registration fee (changes Feb 11)
Your goods labelled for sale and sorted into age groups and on hangers, where
appropriate. (See paragraph on Limit on Clothes)
2 A4 pieces of paper with your Seller’s Registration Number written on it (as large as
possible). This is to aid in collating items at the end of the sale under each seller’s
1 stamped addressed envelope, with your Seller’s Registration Number written in the
corner. (This is to speed up the process in sending your cheque to you).
2 blue IKEA/green NNS bags (not labelled) for your unsold goods, or a donation of 30p
per bag. (changes Apr 11)
COLLECTION OF UNSOLD ITEMS
All items must be collected between 4.30pm and 4.45pm on Saturday 15th September 2012.
If you can come earlier and help us to sort unsold items, it would be really helpful. Any items
that are not collected on the day will be taken to a charity shop, unless the NNS Co-ordinator
has been contacted prior to the collection time to be told of extenuating circumstances.
QUALITY OF GOODS SOLD
Quality control will reject all items that do not comply with the guidelines. The success of this
event depends largely on you!
This season’s sale is for Autumn/Winter items ONLY.
Make sure all items are clean and in good condition. All items are Quality Checked to our best
possible standard, and therefore items that are considered to be stained, faded, damaged,
out of season or overpriced will not be put out for sale (please see our disclaimer). Please
check clothes in daylight as stains often show up better then.
Bagging of Items
Although bagging of items does enhance presentation, this hinders our ability to quality check
them, therefore please can I request that you do NOT bag items up.
Where possible we prefer clothes on hangers as this helps to reduce the amount of tables
used during the sale which in turn helps with the flow of customers around the stock. Better
flow = more goods sold. Clothing items that are not on hangers will be piled onto tables,
therefore our customers are less likely to see them meaning that they are less likely to sell.
Toys, Equipment and Books
Check all parts/pages are clean, complete and in full working order (especially jigsaws and
games). Any items which cannot easily be inspected by the shopper (items with lots of
pieces) must be tagged with a second label stating your Seller’s Registration Number so that
the buyer can check the item once they have purchased it, and contact us with any problems.
You may assemble items such as cots etc, but must provide the tools for a customer to take it
down when they purchase it!
HEALTH & SAFETY REGULATIONS and PROHIBITED ITEMS
We cannot sell any of the following items:
1) Car seats
4) Crash helmets (incl. riding hats)
5) Cot bumpers
6) Bag-style baby slings (with an elasticated edge or drawstring) (changes Jan 12)
7) Mains powered electrical equipment
8) Any product recall items known to the organisers
9) Underwear (incl. vests)
10) Items with drawstring necks
12) Hand knit clothes/toys
13) Feeding equipment (incl. bottles/expressing equipment)
14) Soft Toys - teddies, stuffed animals, etc
15) Children’s clothes over age 10 (changes Apr 11)
16) VHS Videos (changes Apr 11)
Pushchairs and prams must, by law, conform to British Standard BS 7409 and be clearly
marked with this and manufacturer’s details. They must have fully sound brakes, a notice
permanently attached about child safety and have full instructions in English headed
"Important – keep for future reference".
As per the NCT Head Office Guidelines, you can sell a Travel System Pram at the Nearly
New sale, but you CANNOT sell a Travel System Car seat. You may attach a note to the
Travel System inviting enquiries from buyers to purchase at a later date. You are NOT
allowed to give the car seat away for free under the auspices of the NCT, as this is
considered to be supplying and thus renders us liable and being fined up to £5,000.
Changes from Head Office now allow us to sell baby walkers (it will be the buyer’s decision
as to whether they deem these safe for their child), baby door bouncers (as long as they are
being sold with instructions stating a maximum weight) and sit-in activity centres. We are also
now able to sell nightwear and all types of shoes, as long as they pass the general quality test
we do with all our clothes. (changes Jan 12)
The buyers commission payment will be reduced for unclear-labelled items, or items that do
not abide by the following:
Please use labels of CARD at least 2" x 2" (5 x 5 cm)
Include: Seller’s Registration Number, Age Group/Size and Price £
Pin labels to clothing using only 1" or longer Safety Pins. Pins are sold by us for 10p for

LIMIT ON CLOTHES
Due to the wonderful response we have from people wanting to sell quality items, and more
specifically children’s clothing, we have decided to request that you, the seller, aid us in
showing your items to their best potential by adhering to the following limit/requirements.
Clothes MUST be placed on hangers (where appropriate) and pre-sorted into the following
categories and limits:
Boys/Girls - 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months
These age groups will be limited to 30 outfits in total only.
Boys/Girls 12-18 months, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5 and beyond
These age groups are UNLIMITED at present.
Please be aware that we only sell children’s clothes up to age 10.
Minimum price is £1, price items going up by 50p thereafter if you so wish. It is also
dependant on how much you want your items back - be realistic.
Baby clothes: £1- £2
Toddler's clothes: £1 - £4
Older children's clothes: £2 - £5
Toys/equipment: as a guide, half of the original price
Unusual / designer clothes: £5 - £10+
Maternity: £3-10 depending on item
Please be aware that supermarket brands do not sell for high prices. We recommend that
you keep these brands to £1 - £2 per item or be creative, make an outfit or sell in sets of 3 if
you want to charge a little more.
NCT take 30% on all items. We pay the seller, by cheque, 70% of the value of sales. This will
be sent in your stamped addressed envelope, so don’t forget to bring one on the day!
The NCT cannot be held liable for any loss or damage resulting from the goods purchased,
nor can it be held responsible for items damaged or lost during the sale, although we take
every possible measure to avoid such events.
In order to keep quality to a high standard, we reserve the right to reject an item based on
unsuitability, out of season, damaged, stained etc.
We are volunteers working to a strict timescale and try to quality check all items that pass
through. There may from time to time be discrepancies considered detrimental to either seller
or purchaser. All comments/complaints will be heard fairly and equally, however, as a charity
“reasonable” decisions made on the day will stand.
We cannot run these events without up to 40 volunteers (partners & parents welcome). Are
