DIRECTIONS: Please complete this form and email it to the Volunteer Coordinator, Lorraine
Lindsay, at lmlconsu@telus.net . She will be filling these positions on a first-come, first served
basis. Free volunteer t-shirt will be given to all volunteers, and a meal voucher will be given to
volunteers filling 4 + hours of service.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS: Please read through these descriptions and place a check mark
beside any that interest you. If you check off more than one, please rank them in terms of the
ones you are most interested in, e.g., 1, 2, etc. We typically ask volunteers for a four-hour
commitment of time (e.g., two two-hour shifts with a break in between), but if you have special
circumstances, we will do our best to work around them!

☐INFORMATION TENT: assists the volunteer co-ordinator in answering questions from visitors
regarding events’ times and locations, the cash-dispensing machine’s location and
miscellaneous questions; administers lost and found; hands out programs; takes down names
for haggis toss and kilted mile competitions

☐PARKING LOT ATTENDANT: this is a two-person job, per lot and per shift; directing traffic
in and out of the lot(s); directing visitors to other lots when full (and putting out/taking in ‘full’
signs, as necessary); directing visitors to entrance gates; answering general questions about
admission, location, etc. (a visitor’s brochure will be provided)

☐SALES TENT: this is a one-person job, per shift, assisting the chief sales clerk with selling t-
shirts and other Games souvenirs

☐TUG O’ WAR: this is a two-person job, only on Saturday, for the duration of the event (2
p.m. – 3 p.m., approximately; can be combined with another volunteer position), handing out
membership forms to each team’s contestants, collecting them back (checking that they’ve been
filled in correctly), and marshalling the team to the start positions; together, they have the
medals and prize money ready for presentation
☐HAGGIS HURLING: this is a two-person job, only on Saturday, for the duration of the event
(2 p.m. – 3 p.m., approximately; can be combined with another volunteer position) - one runs
out with a marked rope to measure the toss, retrieve the haggis and run it back to the starting
point; the other records the tosses and hands the results to the announcer

☐SIGN CHANGER: this is a two-person job, only on Sunday; each section of dancing (9 a.m.
– noon, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.) requires two people to change the signs up on the stage as each dance
is announced

☐KILTED MILE:      this is a two-person job, only on Saturday (11 a.m. – 2 p.m., approximately;
can be combined with another volunteer position), involving handing out membership forms to
contestants, collecting them back (checking that they’ve been filled in correctly), and organizing
competitors for each age category’s race.

☐HERITAGE TENT: this is a one-person job, per shift, assisting the Games Executive
member in charge. It will involve notifying the presenters of their turn in the tent, assisting them
with setting up anything they need in order to do their presentation, and answering questions
from the public. Some technical knowledge with sound equipment would be an asset.

☐SURVEYOR: this is a two-person job (one on each gate), per shift, in which you will
approach visitors entering the gates and asking them for their participation in a quick survey
about how they heard about the Games
