									Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)
for
Kindergarten Teachers

CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE 2012–2013 PILOT PROJECT
 1. LLI is to be used as a guided reading supplement for students reading below grade-level expectations.
Guided reading is part of the DPS core literacy curriculum.
 2. Certified teachers must implement the program. Three years of successful kindergarten teaching is
    recommended before learning LLI.
 3. LLI teachers must meet with a group of three to four children four days per week for 30 minutes daily.
Adequate scheduling and paraprofessional time must support this interaction.
 4. LLI teachers must attend five full days of training: one day each in September, October, November,
    January, and March.
 5. LLI teachers must be coached at least once during the year.
 6. Schools will be responsible for substitutes, if needed, to release teachers for LLI professional
development (a total of 5 substitute days). DPS will provide LLI kits (Orange kit costs $1,635).
 7. Principals must be willing to review LLI teachers’ Intervention Records once a trimester and meet with
LLI teachers and LLI district specialist once each year to review program implementation and student
    data.
 8. Teachers may be asked to purchase materials for the program from their kindergarten budgets (not to
    exceed $200).

Schools that participate in the 2012–2013 LLI pilot and want to continue the LLI intervention program will
become part of the LLI Continuing Contact Cohort. Schools that do not plan to continue the intervention
program next year need to return their kits at the end of the 2012–2013 school year.

Applicants for the pilot project will be selected based on their ability to meet the above program guidelines.
Applications must be received by May 15, 2012. Spaces are limited, so apply by the deadline.
