                              Program Descriptions

At Just For Kids Preschool we provide a variety of programs whose primary goal is to
encourage exploration of the world while developing skills and a love of learning. All of our
programs are designed to encourage growth of children in cognitive, language, social, and
motor development.
The child’s social and emotional growth will be stimulated through daily interaction with peers,
the use of a variety of learning and play materials, dramatic play, songs and finger plays.
Physical growth is developed within our physical education program where the emphasis is on
hand/eye and foot/eye coordination, balance, creative movement and fundamental locomotion
skills. We strive to build on the child’s strengths and provide them with the opportunity to
experience success through appropriate goal setting.
The child’s cognitive growth and creativity will be strengthened through our carefully planned
classroom activities. The children will be given an opportunity to explore and discover the world
around them, while experimenting with new materials, games, toys and books. Our weekly
themes will provide variety, imagination and skill development as well as supplement the
individual attention given to each child.

3 Year- old Program:
At Just For Kids, those children who will be three by October 31st and are toilet trained, register
in our 3 year- old class and may choose a two or three day program. These classes meet on
Monday and Wednesday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday mornings and afternoons, or
Tuesday and Thursday a.m. extended day, with Friday (am or pm) as a third day option.

The 3 year-old program emphasizes social interaction, emotional growth and fine motor skills.
The children will practice their listening skills while enjoying stories and finger plays during circle
time. They will have time to play and interact with their classmates, thus practicing their
emerging social skills. The curriculum will include introducing shapes, colors, letters, name
recognition, counting, number recognition, and independence in dressing. A “Star of the Week”
program is also incorporated to build confidence and self worth.
The development of fine motor skills will be an integral part of this program, preparing the
children for writing in the future. They will enjoy an art project each day working on cutting,
gluing, coloring and painting. The curriculum will be supplemented with a variety of themed
centers to reinforce skills being introduced in the classroom. The children will participate in a
physical education class each day. This program will introduce locomotion skills such as
walking, running, hopping, crawling and climbing, as well as balance, flexibility, ball skills,
dance, and games.
 Young 4 Year- old Program:

We offer a 3-day morning or afternoon program for all children who will be 4 by Oct. 31st. Some
of these children will go on to Kindergarten the following year and some will register for our four
or five day Pre-Kindergarten program. The Pre K program is open to anyone going on to
Kindergarten the following year. Regardless of which program your child attends, the emphasis
is on Kindergarten readiness.
All four year old programs will introduce pre-reading and pre-math skills to prepare each child
for future success. The curriculum is designed to offer a learning environment that will
maximize the learning potential of each child. The children will have the opportunity to work
with the teacher one on one, and in small groups, to master skills and become comfortable
within a learning environment. They will also participate in a “Star of the Week” program to
build confidence and self worth.
The weekly activities focus on the “Letter of the Week”, where the proper formation of the
D’Nealian alphabet will be practiced and the letter sounds will be introduced using the Jolly
Phonics program. They will also focus on learning their full name, parents’ names, address,
and phone number as they prepare to venture out into their social world.
Math concepts such as shapes, sequencing, patterns, numbers and problem solving will be
introduced through concrete activities and projects. The children will also have an opportunity
to discover the world of sign language as we learn the alphabet and daily phrases.
Fine motor development will be encouraged through weekly arts and crafts projects, where
there will be daily opportunities to cut, color, glue, work with play dough, and enjoy a variety of
manipulatives.

This curriculum will be supplemented with a nutrition unit. The unit will provide the children with
basic nutrition knowledge to promote good eating choices for a healthy diet. The children will
have an opportunity to meet once a week and engage in a variety of activities revolving around
the food pyramid, healthy food, junk foods, and making food choices.

Gross motor development will be addressed in the daily physical education program. The
children will participate in units that provide structured activities such as obstacle courses, ball
skills, tumbling, dancing, and games. The children will also spend a portion of their day
engaging in creative movement, singing and music awareness.

Pre-K & Extended Pre-K Program:

Those children who will be four years old by September 1st may register in our three, four or five
½ day Pre-K program or our 4 or 5 day/wk Extended Day Pre-K program. The extended day
program will include lunch, recess, and afternoon literacy centers, social studies, foreign
language, science, math, and music. Each day they will focus on a different afternoon special
activity. The Pre-K curriculum is activity centered, focusing on following multi-step directions,
participating in group activities, working with a partner, and involving both the teacher and the
children in the learning process. The weekly activities focus on the “Letter of the Week” where
the proper formation of the D’Nealian alphabet will be practiced and the letter sounds will be
introduced using the Jolly Phonics program. Phonics and whole language techniques will be
introduced to give those who are ready the chance to begin reading. Many of these skills will be
reinforced as they work on age appropriate centers during table time.

Math concepts will be practiced daily during circle time as well as through games and activities
planned in the classroom. The children will also have a chance to expand their knowledge as
they engage in math centers available to them. Special themes will be used to encourage
exploration of science and social studies and our “Introduction to Sign Language” unit will give
them an opportunity to learn to communicate through sign.

Pre-K students will also participate in gross motor development, creative movement and music
appreciation, which is vital to the development of the entire child. The students will participate in
a “Star of the Week” program that encourages thinking, speaking, and listening skills.

This program will provide new challenges and build self-confidence, allowing the children to
reach their potential and offer them a successful transition into Kindergarten.
