Text: Algebra 1, McDougal Littell Webpage: www.classzone.com
General Information:
Algebra 1 A is the first half of a two-part course on Algebra. The purpose of this course is to develop the
algebraic concepts and processes that can be used to solve a variety of real world and mathematical
problems. Algebra 1 is a gateway class for all higher-level mathematics courses and is a state graduation
requirement. For this reason, a passing grade is a must. The goal of this course is to set a strong foundation
for the continuation of your mathematical studies. This course is meant to be both challenging and
demanding.
Course Topics:
Chapter 1 Expressions, Equations, and Functions
Chapter 2 Properties of Real Numbers
Chapter 3 Solving linear equations
Chapter 4 Graphing Linear equations and Functions
Chapter 5 Writing linear equations
Chapter 6 Polynomial Functions
Chapter 13 Probability and Data Analysis
Radicals and Geometry Connections
Materials:
Each student must bring their covered textbook Note: Due to the size of the textbooks, sock type covers are
not recommended as they tend to pull the binder too tight causing damage. Please cover the books with a
paper type cover so that proper sizing is achieved.
A Three Ring Binder type notebook, (preferably a separate one for this course), dividers are recommended but
not required. (notebooks can be provided, if needed)
Pocket Folder
Two pencils - At least two pencils should be brought to class daily. NO PEN IS ACCEPTED

Homework Policy:

You are expected to have homework complete. Homework is an important part of class. If you forget your
work it will be graded as incomplete. You may turn in an assignment late for partial credit but this should be
done prior to the SA. You are responsible for assignments when you are absent. Back assignments should be
given to me before class starts. Assignments will be handed-in, checked and/or used in class. Homework is
the best way to practice for your assessments. Make sure to correct any and all errors while checking your
own assignments.
