                Announcements are posted daily on the West Forsyth website:

    1.   School pictures will be on Friday, September 14, for seniors and freshmen, and on Monday,
         September 17, for sophomores and juniors. Students will report to the media center
         alphabetically according to the schedule below. Report to class first; your teacher will dismiss
         you for pictures. Your first period B day teacher should have your order forms. You can pick up
         an order form from the media center if you do not have a 1B class at West. Students who are
         absent during their scheduled time may make up their pictures during lunch, a travel period, or
         before or after school. Students must follow dress code in pictures. Seniors will wear drapes
         and tuxes, so senior boys need to wear a white t-shirt, and senior girls need to wear a wide-neck
         top that can be pulled to the shoulders. The photographer will provide the tuxedo tops and
         velvet drapes.

    2.   An informational meeting for parents of prospective National Honor Society students will be
         held on Monday, September 17 at 6 p.m. in the media center. The application process and
         requirements for membership will be discussed. Membership in NHS is available to juniors and
         seniors who currently have a 3.2 unweighted GPA.
    3.   The Allegacy Student Run Credit Union will be opening on Monday, September 17 in the lobby
         of the 600 building. It will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during lunch to serve
         the needs of the student and staff Members. Members can open new accounts, make deposits,
         make withdrawals and complete other transactions during this time. Stop by for more
         information on a membership!
   4.   A meeting for Parents of Seniors will be held Thursday, September 20 at 6:30 pm in the PAC
        auditorium. The session will cover college and scholarship information presented by our
        guidance department and will last approximately one hour.
   5.   SENIORS: There will be a list with your name on it in your English class, the Media Center and the
        Guidance office. Please check your name to make sure it is correct and initial by it, at one of
        theses locations. This will be the name used on your diploma. The list will be collected on Friday
        September 28.

   1. The SAT test date of October 6th late registration deadline is by September 21. This fall, the
      College Board will introduce important changes to help ensure everyone has a fair chance on test

   2. PSAT - The 9 ,10,and 11 graders are encouraged to still take the test. Fee waivers are available

      only for Junior’s who receive free or reduced lunch. A copy of your lunch letter must be provided
      to Ms. Winchester in guidance. Copies of the free and reduced lunch letter can be turned in now.
   3. Sign ups for October 17 PSAT for students taking Geometry or a higher math will start on
      September 24 through September 28 with your math teacher. Students taking math second
      semester and at the Career Center can sign up in the guidance office. Taking the PSAT is great
      practice for the SAT and the junior year is when you could qualify for a National Merit
      Scholarship. No seniors can sign up to take the PSAT.
   4. U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan invites all 7 -12 grade students to MILITARY SERVICE ACADEMY

      DAY 2012, Saturday, September 22, at Forsyth Technical Community College, West Campus
      Auditorium, 1300 Bolton St., Winston-Salem. Please join Senator Hagan and representatives to
      hear about the service academics and as well the service academy nomination process.
      Registration begins at 8:30-9:30 am. For more information contact Chris Sgro at 336-333-5311.
   5. The Centennial Scholarship (up to $47,500) is for NC State University’s College of Textiles for
      students planning on entering a Textile degree program in engineering, business management,
      chemistry, polymer chemistry, forensics, medical fields, international studies, design, apparel,
      sourcing, fashion,merchandising, or retail management. West may nominate two students.
      Interested seniors should complete an “I want to be considered” form in Guidance by Friday,
      October 3. For more details go to . If you do not receive a nomination from
      West, there is a self-nomination process.
   6. Levine Scholars is a very competitive full scholarship to UNC-Charlotte. Expected candidate will
      have a GPA 3.8-4.0 (unweighted), SAT 1800-2400 or ACT 29-36, and community service. Students
      must request nomination from their counselor by Friday, September 28. Application and
      supplemental scholarship information must be submitted by October 15. For more details go to .
   7. UNC-Charlotte representatives will be here Tuesday, September 18 at 8:00 am in the Media
      Center. UNC Charlotte students gain the intellectual and professional skills that will prepare them
      for productive lives in a global, knowledge-based environment. Please come by on Tuesday and
      learn more!!
   8. West is nominating two of our seniors to compete for the Park Scholarship at NCSU. Character,
      scholarship, leadership and service are the qualities considered in the endorsement of
      Randall Bissette and Mallory Deeter. Congratulations and best of luck!

   1.   Tri-M Music Honor Society will meet on Wednesday, September 19th at 3:45pm in the Chorus
        Room. All members are asked to please be present. We will elect new officers and talk about
        service points.
   2.   Attention SLC members. You should have received your acceptance letter by Tuesday 9/12.
        There will be a mandatory meeting for all SLC members on Monday, September 17th at 3:45 in
        the cafeteria. Please bring your $10 dues with you.
3.  Girls' Service Club: Any seniors who were a part of GSC last year and wish to continue
    membership this year must attend a brief but important meeting in Room 1023 at 3:45 on
    Tuesday, September 18. Ms. Currin and Ms. Gayle look forward to seeing you there. Potential
    new members, stay tuned!
4. Did you miss the first WEST WACKOS meeting and you still want to join? We will have a sign up
    day on Monday, 9/17 after school in Room 302. We need to order more t-shirts but we need
    your dues first! Dues are $12. We also will have last year's WW shirt available to purchase for $5.
5. Habitat for Humanity will meet in Ms. Marshall's room (409) Wednesday, September 19th after
    school. If you are interested in joining or finding out more information, plan to attend the
    meeting. You can also join as a new member for $10 and returning members can join for $5. All
    dues are a donation to the Youth United Build.
6. Any student wishing to apply for membership in the West Forsyth Science Honor Society
    should pick up an application outside of Room 202 by Monday, September 17. Applications will
    not be available after Monday, September 17. The deadline to turn in the completed SHS
    application is Friday, September 21 at 4:00PM. Late applications will not be accepted.
7. The FCS (Fellowship of Christian Students) invites students, faculty and staff to join us at 8:30
    am on September 26 at the flag pole in front of the school for the National
    “See You at The Pole” Event.
8. Key Club preliminary membership roster is posted outside room 1027. There will be a meeting
    on Wednesday 9/19/12 after school in the media center for all preliminary members. If you
    cannot attend, please see Ms. Carmichael in room 1027 BEFORE the meeting.
9. Senior Men’s Club: Club meeting to be held on Tuesday September 18, at 3:45 in room 707 in
    order to elect officers.
10. FBLA MEETING Wednesday 9/19 after school in Room 908. See Ms. Baker if you have any

    planning for homecoming.
