Taste The Art of the Blended Wine at Arrowhead Grill's West Side Wine Club Delve into the rich history of wine blending by tasting blends, both red and white, from the world’s most famous wine regions, Greece, France, Italy, Sonoma and Napa. AG wine club to explore the tastes and triumphs of blended wines this Saturday, Sept 29, 2-4 p.m. Glendale, AZ, September 27, 2012 -- Delve into the rich history of wine blending by tasting blends, both red and white, from the world’s most famous wine regions, Greece, France, Italy, Sonoma and Napa. Arrowhead Grill’s sommelier will guide wine enthusiasts on a journey through the historical wine blends of the Old World to their present-day, American cousins. The tour begins with the revered grapes of the Mediterranean and French countryside, where vintners established the tradition of wine blending hundreds of years ago. Elios Mediterranean White is a wine that gets its names from Helios, the sun god, and blends traditional grapes, Chardonnay and varietals of the Mediterranean. This characteristically yellow, fruit forward wine is a delight to the senses, bringing to mind sandy beaches and lazy summer days and is steeped with light, tangy citrus flavors and hints of vanilla and honey. Made of Terret and Vermentino grapes of France to enhance its vivacity and smoothness, the Marius Blanc is Michel Chapoutier’s creation. This blended wine opens to fruit and peach aromas with notes of grapefruit and offers a complex, ample and fruity richness that lingers on the tongue. On the American side, and paying homage to our Founding Fathers of the Federalist Party, The Federalist’s Dueling Pistols presents a daring blend of Zinfandel and Syrah. Both grapes hail from Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma, noted for vintners’ unique approach to zinfandels and this blend is no different. Ben Carter of Benito’s Wine Reviews describes Dueling Pistols as having “firm tannins and a big, dark blackberry fruit profile with a long, rich finish. Later, as it breathes, a slightly toasty aroma contributes to a wonderful dark berry pie flavor.” These are just a few of the wines that will be explored during the Art of the Blend tasting event at Chef Charles Wade Schwerd’s West-Side Wine Club, Saturday, Sept. 29, from 2-4 p.m. Each wine will be will be expertly paired with foods that bring out their distinct and complex flavors while exploring the practice and art of blended wines. “As a craft that has been practiced for more than 500 years, wine blending is one of the most creative and expressive forms of epicurean experimentation and has given the culinary world great new tastes to treasure,” said Chef Charles Wade Schwerd. “We’ve chosen blended wines that illustrate the complexity and artistic range that these wines have to offer, and we know everyone will enjoy exploring their flavors.” The West-Side Wine Club will meet at Arrowhead Grill from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, and is open to the public. The cost is $25 per person in advance and reservations are required. To RSVP for Arrowhead Grill’s Art of the Blend Wine Tour, wine enthusiasts and interested novices can call (623) 566-2224 or make a reservation online at www.arrowheadgrill.com/reservations.
