GENERAL FORM Name: Role: Reviewer: Date of Review: Departmental Aims The principal aim of the Department of Computer Science is to undertake research and teaching of the highest international standards in Computer Science and related areas. The specific objectives of the Department are to: maintain an excellent reputation for its research, relevant to the needs of industry, especially in the areas of High Integrity Systems Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Real-time Systems, Advanced Computer Architectures (including Neural Networks and Vision), Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems; maintain an excellent reputation and professional accreditation for its taught degree courses, especially through broad-based courses with an engineering focus (such as Computer Science and Computer Systems and Software Engineering), courses with an application in specialised areas (such as MSc in Information Processing) and advanced postgraduate courses in areas of research excellence; maintain a thriving postgraduate research school.
In addition, the Department is concerned to maintain an interesting and stimulating working environment for high quality staff who are motivated by their work, and have enthusiasm for generating new ideas.
