Do you want to learn some interesting business and internet facts? The development of the internet
and the World Wide Web is a fascinating subject, round which fortunes have been made and
reputations established.

Internet business is the fastest growing form of business on the planet, and is available to everybody
irrespective of their business acumen or financial know-how. You might say that you already know
about the internet since you are using it every day, but how well do you really know about it and its

Many people get confused by the difference between the internet and the World Wide Web. The early
internet development was carried out largely by the Department of Defense in the USA, while the
WWW was invented by Englishman Tim Berners-Lee some 20 years later.

They are different entities, and the way to explain the difference is to take the telephone as an
analogy. If your computer is the analogue of your telephone set, then your IP address is your
telephone number, specific to your telephone, the World Wide Web consists of all file addresses that
can publicly be connected to each other (e.g. equiv. to conversations that you have by telephone) and
the internet is the means by which they are connected – the telephone cables and wireless

Thus, the web consists of all the files, that can be text, images, videos and so on that can be accessed
by means of hyperlinks from one IP address to the specific file location on another IP address, and
passed between IP addresses using the internet.

Although the World Wide Web started in 1990, we can trace the roots of the Internet to as early as the
1950s to 1960s. It was actually started after the Russians launched Sputnik 1 in 1957, and the
American military became afraid of the conquest of space by the Russians. They became conscious of
the need for swift computer communication round the world in the interest of defense.

It was in 1962 that the DARPA or Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency was formed, and in
1969 the first internet officially went live, referred to as the ARPANET. It was the idea of a man who is
aptly called the father of the internet, J.C.R. Licklider. His idea, that he called the Galactic Network, is
considered to be the seed of the Internet.

Who knew back then that internet business would flourish as it did? Aside from Licklider, Vinton Gray
Cerf is considered to be one of the forefathers of the Internet. Cerf developed the TCP/IP protocols
needed for the transfer of packetized files, and in doing that, he played a key role in the development
of the internet.

The first long distance connection was also developed in the 1960s, by MIT researcher Lawrence G.
Roberts and Thomas Merrill in 1965. They connected the TX-2 computer from Massachusetts to a
Q-32 computer in California. However, the phone lines during that time could not handle internet
technology and it was some time before such technology was commonplace.

Many familiar names can be thrown into the pot, one of which is Al Gore. Many people mistake him as
the inventor of the Internet. While it is not true, he actively promoted it, making him a key player in its
growth. Al Gore popularized the term “information superhighway” which was coined back in 1974 by
Nam June Paik. While the Internet grew over the decades, it was only in the 1990s that the World Wide
Web provided the resource by which ordinary people could have easy access to the internet. Home
computers were common by then, but internet access was still in its infancy.

It was in 1993 that the first known web browser, Mosaic, was released. The radio media took 38 years
for them to have 50 million users or listeners. The television took 13 years while the Internet only
needed 5 years to achieve the same volume of usage. Much of that had to do with reduced costs, of
course, but it was a significant achievement nevertheless.

A little known fact is that only about a third of internet communication is in English, the most common
of the other two thirds being in Chinese and Spanish. North America has the largest continental
concentration at 70%. On the other hand, the country with highest percentage of Internet users is
Sweden at 75%. Another interesting fact about the Internet business is the number of pages or indices
there are today. According to Google, their index now contains over 8 billion pages and it is still
growing rapidly each day.

The internet is the fastest growing business medium, and if you are interested in having your own
business, it is by means of the internet that you are most likely to achieve success. Home business
franchises are a popular option to the traditional style of business since most of the set-up work has
been done for you, and many are virtually turnkey operations.

Most Common Interesting Facts About Panama
                                                            By Laurie Cooper

As Panama is mostly visited by tourists as a developing country and one that is involved in trade,
tourism, real estate, commerce, and banking, it can be observed that there are many interesting facts
about Panama that may range from infrastructure, economy, politics and its culture. The interesting
facts about Panama leave a trademark of what Panama is all about. There are several points that can
be marked but we can just limit it to the six most common among many observations on Panama.

First, the most common interesting fact about Panama is the Panama Canal. Aside from real estate,
the Panama Canal is one of the popular things when you talk about Panama. The canal is the
waterway which joins the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. It becomes interesting because of its complex
engineering structure that makes it the most difficult and largest project ever undertaken Panama.
Ships from the two oceans emerge in this canal making it a conduit of most international shipping.
Travel time from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea is only two hours when you pass by the
Panama Canal.

The second common interesting fact about Panama is its currency. Panama uses the US Dollar for
bills but the coins are called Balboa. Yet, the official national currency of Panama is the Balboa, which
is pegged to the US Dollar.

When it comes to population, there are also interesting facts about Panama. Although it is the most
industrialized country in Central America, Panama real estate is really affordable, and Panama has the
lowest population in Central America. Its population is composed of 70% mestizo that comprises a
mixture of Europeans and Native Americans. Panamanians speak mostly Spanish although most can
relate to English.

Again, one of the common interesting facts about Panama is that the place Boquete is one of the best
destinations for retirees per Modern Maturity magazine. In other popular magazine, the International
Livings, Panama is the number one place in the world to retire. Basically, there are many real estate
buyers and investors in Panama that are retirees. They enjoy the affordability and tax incentives in
Panama for real estate.

Another interesting fact about Panama is that it has large number of banking and financing institutions.
Because banking forms part of its main economic activity, Panama has several banking laws that
protect business from foreigners. The total number of these banking laws is 40 and this includes
banking privacy law and foreigner to local equality laws.

Finally, for miscellaneous observations, there are also interesting facts about Panama. Baseball is the
most common sports in Panama together with boxing and soccer. If Hong Kong has the largest duty
free zone, Panama has the second largest. Also, it has the second largest registrant for offshore
companies second to Hong Kong.

Of course there are still many interesting facts about Panama in other aspects in the society that you
can observe or read from books about Panama, but the most common are the above. You can readily
pinpoint other interesting facts about Panama when they differ from the current place and culture from
which you live or when the certain facts are unique only to Panama.
