Main Library – Level 2
Start at A and follow the letters alphabetically to familiarise yourself with Level 2, then return to A to take the main stairs for access to your subject level.

Main Stairs - Use these and other staircases to access other levels. Fire escapes are located at the bottom of all staircases. Enquiries desk - Go here if you would like assistance in finding resources, require subject-specific help, need to book a study room, to register for laptops or to pay fines. This is where you can borrow books and journals using the self-issue machine. www.dur.ac.uk/library/using/borrowing/self/ You can collect reserved items and borrow laptops at this service point. Networked PCs – This open access area is for use by Durham University staff and students, along with another area on Level 3. This is where you return your books.

You can plug in your laptop here and connect to the internet at these points. The library also has wireless access on all floors. There are photocopiers on Levels 1, 2 and 3. You can purchase a card from the self service machine here on Level 2 or from the Enquiries desk. Express terminals for library catalogue and email access. Study room 1 – This room can be used by students who are registered with Durham
University Service for Students with Disabilities (DUSSD). Group study rooms 2 & 3 are bookable for 4 hours. Book at the Enquiries desk. Computer Science books - Most printed Computer Science books are on Level 3 (E). See table overleaf for a breakdown of relevant classmarks. Oversize books (I) have their classmarks prefixed in the Library catalogue with a +. F & H Computer Science journals - Most printed Computer Science journals are at the classmark
681.3(05). There are 2 sequences on Level 3 – current parts (F) and older bound volumes (H). Pre-1970 science journals are shelved in the West Wing on Level 1. Online journals - Use the journal title search on the Library Catalogue to find online journals available to Durham University staff and students, and to link directly to full text articles. Any electronic titles will include “Electronic Resource” in the title display. Databases help you to identify material on a specific subject. Books are arranged by subject. These classmarks represent some of the subject areas of interest to you. Please use the Library Catalogue for full details of the collection. Titles in this subject area are now catalogued using a more modern classification scheme. Some older items may still be found under the old classmark, if this is the case both classmarks will appear on the list below.
