The Seven Year Itch

-The Seven Year Itch came out in 1955. Based on a three-act play by
the same name, it starred Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell.

-Richard Sherman (Ewell) is a man plagued by the seven year itch, a
malady which causes men to cheat on their wives. Through this, he
meets his new upstairs neighbor, known as The Girl (Monroe).
Hilarity and wild imaginations ensue, leading to Sherman's
breakdown and reunion with his wife.
Critical Response

-The Seven Year Itch was received well by critics, although some
were disappointed in its relation to the play.

-Although the 50's were a time of change, the production team was
not ready for certain aspects of the original show, thought to be too

-The people, however, loved the movie, having it produce the famous
Marilyn Monroe.

  popularity went up
• TV sets were a source of cheaper, simpler entertainment
• During the mid 50s, reality TV shows were broadcast for the first

  on public affairs were telecast
• Companies sponsored popular TV shows and programs as means
  of advertisement.
• In 1952, Dwight Eisenhower advertised his presidential campaign
  on TV.
