Setup of an ODBC connection to the AGRESSO Office
To be able to connect to the AGRESSO Office database from within AGRESSO
Budget Manager you need a local ODBC connection to connect to the (central)
AGRESSO Office database.
Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase SQL Anywhere use ODBC for connection to the
database in the first place. For these databases you need to make sure that you have
installed locally the ODBC driver for the database to which you want to connect. You
then use this driver to create an ODBC data source. In earlier versions of AGRESSO
Budget Manager (pre 3.0.11) one also needed to define a local AGRESSO Server data
source through the AGRESSO Service Manager, but this is no longer necessary.
However, for Sybase Adaptive Server 11.5/11.9 and Oracle 7.3/8.0/8.1 it is possible
(and usual) to use a native connection to connect to the database from AGRESSO
Office. To create a local ODBC connection against these databases you need to install
some database client middleware in addition to the ODBC driver. Middleware, ODBC
driver and information on how to set up the middleware for each database can be
found on the installation CD of each database.
Type Version Client Middleware
Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 ODBC 3.70
Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 sp5a ODBC 2.65/3.70
Oracle 7.3.4 SQL*Net 2.3.4
Oracle 8.0.4 Net 8
Oracle 8.0.5 Net 8
Oracle 8.1 Net 8
Sybase Adaptive Server 11.5.1 Open Client 11.1.1
Sybase Adaptive Server 11.9.2 Open Client 11.1.1
Sybase SQL Anywhere 5.5.04 ODBC
The actual setup of the ODBC connection depends on the ODBC driver and
accordingly on the type and version of the database to which you want to connect.
Beware that for the setup of an ODBC connection against an Oracle database one
should not use the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver. Below you will find a brief
description on how to set up the ODBC source for Oracle 7.3 and Sybase Adaptive
On the next page you see the ODBC setup for Oracle 7.3 as opened after selecting
‘Add…’ in the ‘ODBC Data Source Administrator’ and subsequently selecting the
ODBC driver for Oracle 7.3:
First you have to select a name for your datasource. The name you here select is the
one you will use when logging on to the AGRESSO Office database from within
AGRESSO Budget. You also need to enter the SQL*Net Connect String. This string
is already defined for the Oracle database (the network alias defined through the
Network Manager or SQL*Net Easy Configuration). Click ‘OK’ and the ODBC
datasource is defined.
Below you see the ODBC setup for Sybase 11.5 as opened after selecting ‘Add…’ in
the ‘ODBC Data Source Administrator’ and subsequently selecting the ODBC driver
for Sybase 11.5:
In the server name field you enter the SQL Server Name defined in the file ‘sql.ini’
Use DSEDIT in the “Sybase for Windows NT” group to list the SQL Server Names.
This file already exists for all installations of Sybase 11.5/11.9.
