					                 TAKE YOUR FATHER TO SCHOOL DAY 2012 INFORMATION

ELEMENTARY K-5 SCHOOLS                                                ACTIVITIES
                           Fathers will be welcomed in the Grand Lobby with a program, button and handouts
                           They will share during our morning community time
   Pittsburgh ALLEGHENY    Game of "How Much Do You Know About Pittsburgh Allegheny and The School District"
                           Classroom Visitation for 1 class period
                           Lunch and Door Prizes
                           Fathers will be invited to visit school from 10:00am - 12:00 pm to celebrate reading. Take a
                           Father to School Day will occur in conjunction with Guest Reader Day. Fathers will serve as guest
                           readers in all classrooms.
                           Continental breakfast will be served to all fathers in the morning
    Pittsburgh ARSENAL     Activities to occur are as follows: Meeting with principal, welcome, presentation of certificates of
                           participation
                           Overview of Literacy Week and Guest Reader Day
                           Classroom visits will occur and fathers will read to the students, discuss their careers, and the
                           importance of literacy
                           The staff voted to have the fathers, uncles, brothers, and cousins join to join their children
                           for a picnic style luncheon.
   Pittsburgh BANKSVILLE   Lunch and Field activities are planned for the day. Activities will be held inside if it rains.
                           Fathers will discuss their occupations
                           Noon to 1:30pm will tie in with Career Awareness activities
   Pittsburgh BEECHWOOD    Fathers will visit classrooms and then attend a "Special ROAR Assembly"
                           Concord Fathers/Significant Males (over 18 yrs. of age) are invited to “Take you Father to Lunch
                           Day.” The event will occur in the St. Pius Social Hall (located in the church next to the school).
                           Fathers will eat and play with their children at lunch recess.
    Pittsburgh CONCORD
                           All students and fathers are encouraged to dress in Beach Attire.
                           Educational Reading/Math information will be available for the Fathers/Males.
                           Principal Susan Barie will greet the Fathers/Males.

                      At Pittsburgh Dilworth PK-5 Grade, we will begin our day with a welcome address to the
                      significant male figures during the morning meeting. A meeting will occur from 9:15-10:00.
                      During this time, Dr. Lamar will bring greetings and encourage involvement. A PTA
                      representative will also bring greetings to encourage involvement and Eric Walker, from the

                      Pittsburgh Promise will be a guest speaker about the Pittsburgh Promise and how to support the
                      students in achieving the promise. After the meeting, we will take our annual picture and school
                      shadow opportunity for the significant male figures, for they visit the students in their classrooms.
                      The significant male figures will go to lunch, and return for more school shadow until 3:00 p.m.

                      Fathers or Adult Role models will report to cafeteria to sign in and then to the child's homeroom
                      Fathers and adult role models report to the Cafeteria and continental breakfast
 Pittsburgh FULTON    Children meet their father or adult male role model on the playground for relay Races        (K-2) or
                      Kickball (3-5). An alternate activity in cafeteria in case of rain.
                      Children return to class; adults report to the cafeteria so father or adult male role models can
                      participate in a raffle.

                      All Fathers will be honored in our morning community time in the auditorium. The chorus will
                      sing a song of tribute. A videotape will be viewed of students talking about their fathers or a
                      male model in their life and thanking them.
Pittsburgh MINADEO    Grades 3-5 will play Are You Smarter Than a (3rd 4th 5th ) grader.
                      Grades k-2 will have Fathers participate in small group reading activities. Fathers will read a
                      story to a group and lead activities. Art acitivites will also occur : Frames for pictures of their
                      fathers or role model will be made.

                          Culminating activity will be in the auditorium. Fathers/Male Role Models will record words of

                          Fathers will arrive at 1:15 and be greeted at the door by a staff member. They will be directed to
                          their child’s room (s). At the class room, they will participate in an activity of some sort with
                          their child’s classroom (a math game, a reading activity, a science project). Following the

                          academic activity, the fathers will be able to assist the students in completing a craft: designing
                          your own canvas catchalls. Fathers will then receive a small snack and exit by 2:15 prior to
                          dismissal.

      K-8 SCHOOLS                                                              ACTIVITIES
                               Guests are invited to spend the morning (Homeroom until lunch) with their child in the classroom.
                               This includes following the class to Related Arts as well. They will also be encouraged to speak
     Pittsburgh COLFAX         about their careers or read to the class.
                               At 9:00 AM guests will be invited to the cafeteria for coffee for a brief introduction to
                               Administrators and to ask questions, if applicable.
                               Parents arrive at 8:15 and have light breakfast in the cafeteria

                               After breakfast, the students will escort their parent or guardian to their classrooms
                               Event will end at 11:15am
                               Buses will be sent to pick up the fathers by bus between the hours of 8:30 AM and 9 PM. Fathers
                               will have breakfast and a permitted to go to their children’s classrooms until 11:00 AM. The
     Pittsburgh MURRAY         fathers then will be placed on a school bus and transported to Pittsburgh Arlington for a tour of
                               the building and a discussion with Mr. McGuire after which they will be returned to Pittsburgh
                               Murray.
                               Friday, May 18, is our joint End of the Year Picnic with Pittsburgh Schaeffer Primary and
                               Intermediate. Our event will be held at Sheraden Park from 9am-1pm.
                               Father’s and adult male role models will be invited to participate in field, relay and art activities
     Pittsburgh STEVENS        with their children. Photos to commemorate the day will be taken and given to our students and
                               fathers.
                               Fathers and adult male role models will be invited to sit in on classes with their children on the
                               following Monday.
                               Pittsburgh Schaeffer Primary, Pittsburgh Schaeffer Intermediate, and Pittsburgh Stevens K-8 will
                               be hosting a joint Take Your Father to School Day. Students from all three schools will meet
                               together in Sheraden Park for a picnic and activities. Fathers are welcome to start the day with
Pittsburgh SCHAEFFER PRIMARY
                               their child at Schaeffer Primary at 7:55AM, and then meet-up with their child at the Park for the
                               picnic. The picnic is a joint effort on the part of Transition Teams from all three schools to build
                               community as the students prepare to enter the new K-8 at Langley next year.

                                  PITTSBURGH SCHAEFFER INTERMEDIATE WILL INVITE FATHER’S TO JOIN IN THE
                                  SCHOOL’S TRANSITION EFFORTS AT A PICNIC BEING HELD AT SHERIDAN PARK.
                                  THE PICNIC WILL INCLUDE TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES AMONG SCHAEFFER
                                  PRIMARY, STEVENS K-8 AND OUR SCHOOL.

                                  MALE ROLE MODELS WILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO MEE THEIR CHILDREN’S
                                  CURRENT TEACHERS, SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR AND
                                  TAKE HOME BOOKS & LITERATURE TO SUPPORT THE DISTRICT’S READ 25 EFFORT.
                                  FOOD AND BEVERAGES WILL BE PROVIDED AS WELL.

                            Our school will start the day with a continental breakfast in our library with all of our guests. Our
                            guests will be escorted by members of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). The
                            principal, Mrs. Dadey will welcome our guests to our school and explain the morning activities to
                            them. Following the welcome, our guests will follow their children’s schedule (the first 3

                            periods). All teachers will prepare a “guest” friendly, and fun filled activity in which our guests
                            can participate. During 4th period, we will host an “Ask the Professional” workshop in the
                            auditorium. We will have speakers from different agencies talking about the different aspects of
                            parenting. Following this activity, we will raffle off various donated door prizes. Conclusion,
                            Mrs. Dadey will thank everyone for attending this event.

MIDDLE SCHOOLS 6-8                                                       ACTIVITIES
                             1st Annual PROJECT GREENWAY to be held in auditorium with slide show, music, lights....
                             (Sponsored by Arsenal Girls Scouts).
                             Objective: 1.) Based on "Project Runway" this is a Design competition that will promote
                             awareness of effects of littering by using informative slide show as background for runway
                             competition of "creatures/costumes" the students and their significant adult will design/make
                             themselves using recyclable materials. 2.) Encourage all individuals to stop littering at school, our
                             neighborhoods and in the world.
                             In addition, there will be an agency information fair in the library from 12:00 noon – 3 p.m. The
                             Allegheny Family Network’s Father/Family Support Partner and Arsenal’s Student Services Team
 Pittsburgh ARSENAL 6-8      will conduct a 20 - 30 minute presentation for students and their significant adult.

                           A flyer will be sent to all families encouraging all fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other adult
                           males who have made an impact in the life of a child to spend time with him/her at school on this
                           day! The following schedule is put in place:
                           7:30 AM – 8:00 AM: Fathers sign in at the front desk (Sheraden Boulevard entrance)
                           Continental breakfast served to the fathers and their sons/daughters in
                           the library while the students’ schedules are distributed.

                           8:00 AM: Official welcome and introduction program in the library.
                           8:30 AM: Fathers accompany their sons/daughters to their morning classes
                           (beginning 2nd period).
                           10:10 AM: Fathers and their sons/daughters return to the library for a group picture
                           and for the culmination of the formal visit.
                           Teachers will be asked to plan a lesson that can include fathers and students that day.
