American Red Cross Children’s Swim Lessons
Swim Lessons will be held for children in grades 1-12 with beginner through advanced swimming abilities. Children are required to
wear a bathing cap, which can be purchased at the pool for $3 (or at a retailer of your choice). We require that children are at least 42”
tall at mouth level so that they will be able to stand on the bottom of the pool during instruction time. children must have successfully
completed a Red Cross Swimming level and received a completion card before registering for the next level.
Each class has many skill requirements and it will take students some time to learn and master all the skills in any given class. If you
are unsure of which class is right for your child, we suggest reading the lists of skills under each class carefully and
pick the lower class. It’s easier on the child to be moved up than to be moved down. The pool staff will
make any adjustments needed to make sure your child is in the right class on the first day. If your child has
had little or no experience in the water choose our Get Ready to Swim Class.
Classes will be held for 8 weeks at the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School pool. In the case that we
need to cancel a class for any reason that class will be made up. We cannot accommodate make-up classes
if you miss a class. Please indicate the class day, the class time and the swimming level when registering.
Class session information is on page 19.
Walk in registrations will be accepted from Acton-Boxborough residents ONLY beginning on Thursday,
September 13th at 8:00 am at the Community Education Office located at the Administration Building, 15 Charter Road. All other
registrations, including mail-in, phone and non-resident, will be accepted on a space available basis beginning September 14th. You
may sign your child up for one session only. After September 24th, you may contact the Community Education Office to register
your child for additional lessons.
PLEASE NOTE: To promote a maximal learning environment, we are requesting that parents drop their children at the pool
for lesson time and pick them up at its conclusion. Parents will be allowed to remain at the pool on the first and last day of
classes only. If you have a special consideration concerning this policy, please email Erin at: email@example.com. Thanks
for your cooperation. Please walk your child into the pool area for each class.

A-B Town Swim Team
The A-B Town Swim Team is a local team for school-aged children who wish to try competitive swim racing. All swimmers are
evaluated and are placed on the team if their skill level is appropriate. The A-B Town Swim Team is based at the Acton-Boxborough
Regional High School pool. Practices are held from 6:00-7:00 Monday through Thursday evenings. Parents should not stay and watch
practice. Meets are held on Sundays with teams from Newton, Wellesley, Sudbury, Natick, Framingham, Weston, Wayland and Tri-
Participants MUST attend a try-out from 6:00-7:00 pm on the following schedule:
Wednesday, October 24 - Ages 10 and under
Thursday, October 25 - Ages 11 and over
At the tryout, the coaches will decide whether a child’s swimming ability qualifies him/her for the team. If your child is not placed on
the team, your registration fee will be refunded. Regular practices begin on Monday, October 29. NO PRACTICE 10/31.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: OCTOBER 23. Children MUST be registered in order to attend a tryout.

The A-B Town Swim Team requires parent involvement. Among other duties, parents are needed to serve as timers, stroke and turn
judges, starters, scorers, snack bar managers, timing system operators, place judge, locker room monitors, publicity, ribbon writers,
etc. For a full list of positions, parents should carefully review the Town Team Handbook. Please note: Parents who are willing to
take on more than the minimum number of volunteer commitments expected of each family in the program may receive reduced
registration fees for their children. Coach Johnson will determine whether your volunteer role merits a fee reduction.
