West End Association Hosts Rockwell Park Summer Festival, August 17 – 19
Thomaston Savings Bank becomes a major sponsor

BRISTOL, Conn., August 2, 2012 -- Bristol’s West End Association, a non-profit neighborhood
group of merchants and residents committed to the preservation, safety and overall quality of
living in the City’s West End, along with co-host the Kevin Creed Law Firm, will host a
weekend festival at Rockwell Park beginning Friday evening, August 17 through Sunday
afternoon, August 19.

The Rockwell Park Summer Festival, which benefits The Fisher House Foundation and its
efforts to support military families, will include a wide variety of music and dance performances,
crafts, food, an antique car show, basketball, skateboard and volleyball tournaments, giant
inflatable jump houses, tethered balloon rides, an art slam, a “Pet-A-Palooza” for pet lovers and
much more. Admission is free throughout the weekend, and additional vendors and organizations
are invited to participate.

Thomaston Savings Bank also has agreed to help sponsor the Rockwell Park Summer Festival,
and will maintain a booth at the Festival. Their support, says West End Association
Spokesperson David Hamelin, will be used to create and purchase promotional materials such as
signs, brochures and advertising for the event, as well as trophies for the tournament winners.

“We’re grateful to Thomaston Savings Bank for supporting our festival in its inaugural year, and
for helping us showcase all the wonderful talent, resources, merchants, craftspeople and
community members who will participate in this premiere event,” Hamelin said. “The festival
truly will have ‘something for everyone,’ and with the wide range of performances,
competitions, food vendors and showcases, we’re hoping to draw Bristol residents and visitors
from surrounding communities to enjoy this event with their neighbors and friends and to see all
the West End of our City has to offer.”

The Festival officially begins Saturday morning at 10:00 AM, with a mayoral kickoff. The day
features crafts, food, entertainment and inflatable jump houses for the kids. The free basketball
and volleyball tournaments and the skateboard competition will begin at noon. The Bristol Car
Club Invitational Show will run from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM.

Some of the feature entertainment, Hamelin said, includes a free concert by the band Goodhead
on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. They will be playing a mixture of classic and
arena rock. The Bristol Ukulele Band will perform Saturday morning from 11:00 AM until 12:00
PM, followed by various local performers and musicians booked by Ken Ferris. In the evening,
the band “Mid Life Crisis,” which performs classic rock from the 50’s through today, will take
the stage. Additionally, the radio station WZMX/97.3 FM will be broadcasting from the Festival
site on Saturday.

Throughout the weekend The Masons will be selling ice cream, The Mum Festival Committee
will be selling hamburgers, sausage patties and apple fritters, and The Cub Scouts will be selling
hot dogs, along with other food vendors. Fisher House volunteers will be selling cold drinks and
water at five locations spread through the park. The vendors will be operating from 10:00 AM
until 4:00 PM on Saturday.

“We’re thrilled to be supporting this entertaining, recreational and dynamic family focused event
in Bristol,” said President Stephen Lewis of Thomaston Savings Bank. “We’ve just opened our
10th full-service office, on Middle Street, and are committed to this community as well as to our
existing, new and prospective customers. We applaud the good work The West End Association
is doing on behalf of all Bristol residents, and look forward to working with them and other local
organizations like The Fisher House to help ensure a strong and vibrant community.”

The Festival continues through Sunday afternoon, August 19, which also is the rain date for
Saturday’s activities if required. For an updated listing of events and activities online, visit If you’re interested in participating as a vendor, or have other services
