As per the final year students we had to learn statistical Quality Control subject for the first
time. This subject includes statistical quality control theory part and its applications. The
purpose of this subject is to present the technical tools that are needed to achieve quality
improvement in an organization. It is essential that products need the requirements of those
who use them. It provide the principle means by which a product is sampled, tested and
evaluated and the information in those data is use to control and improve the manufacturing

So According to the Assignment we selected the cellular phone industry to analyzed the three
products. Farther we moved to brand name Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung. They are the
leading cellular manufactures in this industry. Not like as pass, now cellular phones are
evaluated with high technology and advance features. Therefore it is became a need of every
human being. As well as it’s is become a crucial item of every person. It became with keypad
in the pass and now it available with touch system. It’s very difficult to emerging the future
versions of cellular phone. Because the technologies developing day by day.
    Quality improvement methods of NOKIA

    Nokia is the most popular brand in the mobile phone industry. This Finnish icon is the
    world’s largest manufacturer of mobile devices and has around 40% of the global device
    market. Nokia was established in . Nokia has always used innovation as a key of success.
    Billion customers and relationships with hundreds of operators around the world, Nokia may
    well manage to hold its place.

    Not only they consider profit but also focus on quality of the product, in follow shows that
    their quality considerations.

    It is important to define tools that can be used to control the quality of the application during
    development. Quality control is a continuous process that extends throughout the
    development process, and it should be possible to backtrack later to identify the origin of
    mistakes that might have been made during the project.

    Quality control tools include, for example, technical reviews and review minutes, checklists,
    expert evaluations, and user feedback. The tools should be linked to specific phases and
    outputs of the development process.

    To evaluate quality, define specific and exact requirements for application that can be used as
    quality metrics. The metrics can require the following:

     Reduction in the number and severity of errors, and improvements in the findings of
      reviews and testing;

     Improving the rate of success at meeting project deadlines and milestones;

     Conforming to the requirement specification;

     Responsiveness to feedback from external experts, including the evaluations of usability

    In addition to testing and evaluating the product that is under development, must regularly
    evaluate the application development process itself. Audit the existing process and gather
    feedback from the development team to determine whether there is any need for change.

Components / Subassembly Test

Testing the quality of the transducers, microphones or subassemblies is important to reduce
the failure rate at the final test. Sorting out defective modules at this early stage is much more
efficient than rejecting the costly completed phones at the end of the production line.

Assembled PCB Test

It is recommended to test the mobile phone PCB (printed circuit board) after its production or
before inserting it into the mobile phone housing. Missing or defective components, passive
components with wrong value and PCB errors can be detected in this manner.

and acquire the market. Because in the current situation according to the busy life style
human needs are rapidly change as a result of this situation the mobile phone evolving in to a
mobile computing device passes advanced PC- Like functionality. The demand for these
smart phones with processors is increase highly. Because people can do more work by using
these smart phones. Because these smart phones has more advance features than normal
mobile phones. Those are voice SMS, High quality audio and video, Advance 3D games,
Faster internet Browsing, Email, High quality camera, productivity applications, Bespoke
applications And Global Positioning System (GPS). These phones require more energy and
more Hardware resources than normal cell phones. That is badly affected to the environment.
Because they have to use more resources to produce these phones as well as have to use more
energy to these phones.
As well as consumption trends are equally affected to the environment. The mobile phone is
consumer electronic device with the highest replacement rate in the history. In Europe nearly
800 million mobile phone users replace their phones on average every 18 months. This
activity badly affect to the environment. Because those mobiles are produce by using
chemicals and not environmental friendly materials.
Sony Ericsson company use concept namely Green Heart to reduce these kind of bad
affections. They produce their phones by using recycled materials. As well as these phones
can recycle after replacing them. That concept helps them to improve their products quality
and to do the emotional effect to consumers to buy green products to protect the
environmental balance. As a result of following this concept Sony Ericsson Company can
win the 2nd place in the Green Peace Ranking.

Green Peace released the 16th version of their Guide to Greener Electronics, where they rank
the 18 top manufacturers of personal computers, mobile phones, TVs and games consoles
according to their policies on toxic chemicals, recycling and climate change. Green Peace’s
three goals with the ranking is to get companies to:

      Clean up their products by eliminating hazardous substances.
      Take back and recycle their products responsibly once they become obsolete.
      Reduce the climate impacts of their operations and products.

As well as they produce mobile phone batteries and mobile phone chargers according to the
energy server policy. That means their batteries and chargers are powerful and they use fewer
energy. That is directly it helps to reduce energy consumption and save the environment.

Now Sony Ericsson company include user manual in the mobile phone it is another result of
the Green Heart concept. If they produce one million mobile phones they have to use 350
tons of papers to make user manuals. 13000 trees and 75000 cubic meter of water want to
produce those papers. As the result of above activity we can save environment.

User Friendliness
Sony Ericsson phones produce more user friendly because by using them we can fulfill our
wants quickly. As well as if the person who use Sony Ericsson phone in the first time he can
achieve his wants quickly and easily.
As a Example if we have to create our mobile’s internet settings in Sony Ericsson phone we
can go to the internet settings and select one of them or edit them. But in Nokia phone we
have to go two places one place for select settings and other place to edit settings. That is not
easy to the person who use the Nokia phone in the first time.
Produce phones to fulfill customers various needs.
Sony Ericsson Company produces various types of phones to match the various needs of
customers. They produce
       walkman phones ( W series) for the users who like to listen songs every time with
        high audio performance.
       Cyber shot camera phones ( C series ) and camera phones ( k series) for the users who
        likes to use high quality camera.

        phones with higher performances.
