TITLE:             Alcorn Writing Center Coordinator
EFFECTIVE DATE:    Immediately
DEPARTMENT:        English/Title III: Undergraduate Scholars Assistance
                   Centers
REPORTS TO:        Alcorn Writing Center Director
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: 12-month Full-time Staff position
SALARY RANGE:      $25,000-$28,000

PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: Administrative management of Alcorn Writing Center

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:                 The Writing Center Coordinator will manage day-to-day operations of the
Alcorn Writing Center in a highly professional manner and will assist and support the Director of the Writing Center in
all aspects of Writing Center administration.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    To be familiar with all University rules, regulations and processes that relate to the Writing Center.
    To manage the reception area as the public face of the Writing Center; to represent the Writing Center to
     students, faculty, and staff in a courteous and professional manner during all hours of official operation; to greet
     all students, faculty, staff, and visitors cordially; to create a professional but comfortable atmosphere in which
     students can work effectively to improve writing skills.
    To process all paperwork in accordance with standard operating procedures and maintain information in an
     appropriate filing system.
    To process and manage all paperwork regarding tutors, ensuring that they complete employment paperwork,
     enroll in the required Tutorial Practicum course, submit a reasonable work schedule, and report hours worked
     accurately.
    To create tutorial work schedules each semester.
    To ensure that tutors know, sign, and uphold the Writing Center’s checklist of Professional Standards.
    To schedule tutoring appointments, receive clients, complete appropriate paperwork, and introduce clients to
     tutors.
    To maintain an exact inventory of office equipment, furniture, supplies, and instructional materials.
    To maintain necessary quantities of data gathering forms and instructional handouts.
    To retrieve Writing Center mail from the post office and disseminate mail and other documents as necessary.
    To assist the Writing Center Director in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the Writing Center, to
     make suggestions for improvements in furthering the Writing Center’s mission, and to keep the Director
     informed of pertinent information.
    To maintain the filing and storage system of the Writing Center, discarding files and non-inventoried equipment
     as appropriate.
    To submit requests for office supplies as needed for both the Writing and Math Centers; to maintain storage of
     office supplies; to oversee efficient use of supplies and other resources.
    To provide timely data for reporting purposes to the USA Director in accordance with instructions.
    To perform other reasonable clerical and office duties as requested by the Writing Center Director.
    To ensure that the Writing Center is clean, tidy, and appealing.

QUALIFICATIONS:
   Experience as office administrative assistant/manager preferred
   Writing Center experience preferred
   Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science preferred

Licensing and Certifications
       None

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
   Thorough knowledge of standard office practices and procedures and ability to work in accordance with these
    procedures.
   Ability to operate standard office equipment, including but not limited to copy machines, scanners, and fax
    machines.
   Ability to use a personal computer and applicable software products. This includes but is not limited to
    Microsoft Office software.
   Ability to learn other software applications as needed.
   Ability to manage processes and multiple priorities and to work under pressure.
   Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with others.
   Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

   I.      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

     1. Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods
     2. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 25 pounds
     3. Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job taking distance and speed
        into account, walking and standing as needed
     4. Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place
     5. Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools
     6. Normal dexterity of hands and fingers
     7. Normal coordination, including eye-hand, hand-foot
     8. Normal endurance
