Department: Academic Support Services Official Title: Academic Advisor Number of Individuals With the Job Description: One Organizational Unit/Department: Academic Advisement, Academic Support Services Work Location: Research and Information Commons (RIC) Title of Immediate Supervisor: Director of Academic Advisement Title of Other Positions Reporting To This Position: None Purpose of Position: Provide academic counseling to students Tasks/Duties Performed: The responsibilities of the position will include, but may not be limited to: Counsel students on curriculum and success strategies. Assist with Incoming freshman registration. Assist with retention efforts. Provide advocacy for students. Focus on at-risk students. Work with a caseload of probationary students. Qualifications: Bachelors degree required; commitment to student success and sensitivity to diversity required. Master’s degree and prior higher education advisement experience is preferred. Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher) Detail and accuracy oriented Maintain confidentiality in a discreet and professional manner. Position is full time, 35 hours per week, exempt administrative and may require extended hours.
