The Spokane County Critical Aquifer Recharge Area (CARA) designation and rating of aquifer susceptibility is intended to be a determination of susceptibility of contamination to groundwater applied via analysis at a 40-acre grid. Critical Aquifer Recharge Area regulations within the Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO) additionally protect wells for which DOH has provided certified data. Wellhead protection areas will be treated as high aquifer susceptibility designation unless the Director of Utilities accepts a hydrogeologic report showing low or medium aquifer susceptibility.
