HOUSTON ZOO INTERNATIONAL CONSERVATION TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION The International Conservation Training Scholarship provides professional training opportunities for our international zoo and aquarium colleagues. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently involved in cooperative efforts with AZA member institutions or participating in Taxon Advisory Groups (TAGs) or Species Survival Plans (SSPs). This scholarship award is sponsored by the Houston Zoo and managed by Zoo Conservation Outreach Group (ZCOG). The scholarship may be applied towards any AZA professional training course in the 2013 fiscal year (October 1, 2012 – September 30, 2013). REQUIREMENTS Employees or associates of zoological institutions or related facilities outside the United States, Canada, or Europe may apply. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating involvement in cooperative conservation program efforts with AZA member institutions. Demonstrated involvement in other regional or global conservation efforts is also of importance. Within four months of attending the AZA Professional Training course, the recipient will submit to AZA an article describing how participating in the course has influenced their professional development. Scholarship recipient testimonials may be published in an issue of CONNECT magazine or used in ZCOG and donor institution media publications. DEADLINE Applicants must submit all completed application materials and letters of recommendation to the AZA Professional Development Program Manager before 5:00pm (Eastern Standard Time) on July 15, 2012. Scholarship recipients will be notified in early September 2012.
