Beef Pre-Show / Weigh-in Reminder
       The Beef Pre-show / weigh-in will be held Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 1-4pm at the Klickitat County
Fairgrounds. 4-H members who plan to sell a market steer in the Klickitat County Fair Market Livestock Sale must be
properly enrolled in 4-H with the Extension office prior to the March 25 weigh-in date. On March 25, be sure to have
your completed “Official Market Livestock Pre-Show Entry Form” correctly filled out for each animal being weighed.

4-H Horse Leaders Meeting on Thursday, March 15
        The next 4-H horse leader meeting will be Thursday, March 15 at 6:30pm in Lyle at the Lyle Activity Center
(on 3rd street and Hwy 14). Carpooling may be available from Goldendale. Contact Pat Shamek at 541-993-9560 or

        Interested 4-H leaders, parents and 4-H horse members who would like to be a part of planning events and
education for our county horse program will want to attend these meetings. This is a good way to stay up-to-date on
current 4-H Horse project information, too. Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month.

        4-H members: Come sew for fun and leave with a completed project that you can put to use that night! We
will be making pajama pants! Patterns will be provided. Here are the materials you need to bring:
                 Choose cotton or flannel fabric (44/45 inch wide): 1 piece, 2-1/2 yards maximum for older youth; 2
                    yards for children’s sizes.
                 Elastic ½ inch or 5/8 inch wide: waist measurement plus 5 inches.
                 Thread, scissors, pins, tape measure.
        Bring your own sewing machine, thread, bobbin and scissors if you have them. If not, we will have sewing
machines and some supplies available .

(new hall) from 1-4pm on Sunday, March 25. Open to all 4-H members. Participants can bring their own project to

March 26, 2012 4-H Leaders’ Council Meeting
        The next Klickitat County 4-H Leaders’ Council meeting will be Monday, March 26, 2012 in the 4-H room at
the Klickitat County Fairgrounds in Goldendale. The volunteer leader training session will begin at 6:30 pm. The
council meeting will begin at 7pm.
        These meetings are where the “business” of our county 4-H program is conducted. Leaders, parents and
youth who attend these meetings help determine the direction of our county program. Please attend as many
meetings as you can. 4-H clubs are encouraged to have a club representative regularly attend meetings.
4-H Spring Break Horse Clinic – April 4-5 at Klickitat County Fairgrounds
        Spring Break is coming!! Don’t miss the 4-H Spring Break Horse Clinic April 4-5, 2012 at the Klickitat County
Fairgrounds. Check-in each day is at 8:30am with classes beginning at 9am and finishing around 5pm.
        Both large and mini horse classes will be available on both days. There will be numerous classes to attend
including nutrition and feeding, make your own treats, showmanship, ranch horse, western riding and learning to
rope. Mini horses will have classes in showmanship, obstacle, jumping, hunter and ground driving.
        Early registration is requested. Cost is $40 per participant. For families with three or more participants, the
cost is $30 per participant. Lunch each day is included in the registration cost. Contact Martha Parsons at 509-365-

WSU 4-H/FFA Feeder Pig Sale April 7, 2012
        The next feeder pig sale sponsored by Washington State University will be at the Grant County Fairgrounds
in Moses Lake, WA on April 7 beginning at 11:00 am. These pigs will be of the right age and weight for July and
August shows. Approximately 200 pigs will be available from the WSU Swine Center for each sale.
        The last sale is set for April 28 at the WSU Cattle Feeding Lab in Pullman beginning at 10 am. These pigs will
be of the right age and weight for September shows. Both spring sales events will begin with an educational program
about health, management, selection, and feeding project pigs. All youth and adults are encouraged to attend even if
they are not purchasing animals.

Save the Date – April 14, 2012 - 4-H Rabbit and Cavy Show and Education Day
       Don’t miss the 4-H Rabbit and Cavy Show and Education Day at the Klickitat County Fairgrounds on
Saturday, April 14 in the Poultry building. One of the highlights is seeing rabbit and cavy agility! Show catalog is
coming soon. Contact Cathy Johnson at 509-773-4375 for more details.

Kittitas County 4-H Youth Rabbit & Cavy Pre-Show, Ellensburg, WA
       Kittitas County would like to invite all 4-H youth interested in showing their rabbit or cavy to their 4-H Youth
Rabbit & Cavy Pre-Show to be held Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 9:30am to 4pm at the Kittitas Valley Event Center
Rabbit barn in Ellensburg, Washington. The purpose of this show is for youth to practice for county fair. Check-in is
from 9:30 to 10am. There is no fee for entering. There will be fitting and showing, rabbit and cavy breed judging and
a “Best Dressed Cavy or Rabbit” class, too! For more information, contact Avery Wheeler at 509-859-4770. Entry

Northwest National Spring Poultry Show in Stevenson, WA
        This is a must-see show for any 4-H poultry member! The Northwest National Spring Show will take place
April 21-22, 2012 in Stevenson, WA at the Skamania County Fairgrounds. Sponsored by the Pacific Northwest
Poultry Association, there are many activities for youth as well as adults. The youth show is quite large and would be
a great experience for any of our local 4-Hers. There is also an Avian Knowledge Bowl and Chicken Drag Races!
Last spring the show had close to 1500 bird entries.
        If someone is looking for great show stock there is a sale area and a bird auction. The knowledge that a
youth exhibitor could get by just talking to these breeders is indispensable! There are cash prizes for showmanship
as well as the confirmation classes.

Beef Management Calendar Available
        NEW! WSU Extension has released a Beef Management Calendar for 2012. This customizable, month-at-a-
glance calendar comes with instructions on how to set up a useful reference for your cattle production operation,
including economic, feeding, breeding, calving, herd health, and other management concerns. The calendar may be
downloaded for free from the livestock IPM web page at .

Young Riders 4-H Club Fundraiser Trail Ride
       Young Riders 4-H Club will hold their annual trail ride fundraiser on Saturday May 12, 2012 in Glenwood,
WA. Cost is $5 per entry. The event begins at 8:30am from the Glenwood Rodeo Grounds and last riders will go out
at 10am. Riders 18 & under must wear helmets. Hamburgers, chips & soda will be available for $5. Enjoy a beautiful

4-H Horse Member Riding Time
       Riding time may be available Wednesdays through March 2012 at the Klickitat County Fairgrounds from 3pm
to 5pm for currently enrolled 4-H horse project members and leaders. Completed enrollment forms must have
been received at the 4-H office along with 4-H insurance payment ($2 for horse project). For more information
