A lot of people are not aware of the risks that go along with their credit card. Sure, credit cards
do make one’s life easier, but it can also become a living hell if that person doesn’t take care of
it well. One of the biggest threats that one could ever encounter with their credit card is identity
theft. This happens when the identity of the card holder is used by someone else without the
owner’s permission and uses it in any way that he or she likes. The thief can even change the
address so that they won’t easily get caught for their unauthorized act. The card holder would
then end up with a very low credit score, a damaged credit history and very large bill. Here are
some identity theft measure that a cardholder should be aware of.

 This may seem too obvious but you really have to be extra careful with your card. Don’t
give out any information right away even to your closest friends. Anyone can use your
credit card to their advantage and the result may be catastrophic. Make sure you keep
some of your basic information private at all times. Don’t leave your card lying just
anywhere and as much as possible, don’t let other people see that you have one
especially if you’re travelling in a different country.

 People may use your identity without you having to lose your card. To track identity theft
early, the best thing you can do is to check your credit regularly. You are entitled to a
free credit report every year from the credit agencies so you don’t have an excuse to get
one. This will make it easier for you to track all of your transactions and if there are fishy
things going on in your creditreport. If in case you see something that is questionable,
you have to report it immediately to your creditor to get everything fixed. What’s difficult
about identity theft is that most thieves can get your address changed so that you won’t
receive any letters from companies and so you won’t be suspecting anything early.

 There are a lot of websites online that would ask you to give your credit card account
number, your name and your address to them. Be very cautious when you’re giving
away this information because some of these sites are scams and they will just trick you
into giving up your information. Again, don’t give out your personal information easily to
       avoid identity theft.

 Just in case you find out that someone is using your account, make sure you report it
immediately to your credit agency. Have all of your accounts frozen, or better yet, close
any accounts that have been tampered with to avoid further damage.

These are just some of the tips for you follow to avoid identity theft. Be careful with you credit
and it will surely go a long way.
