									        JOB DESCRIPTION FOR HEAD BOY AND HEAD GIRL AT NOTRE DAME HIGH SCHOOL

Purpose
You will jointly chair the School Council and lead the Sixth Form Council. You will make sure that
student voice is represented in key decisions and developments within the school.
You will represent the School and student body at a variety of public functions during the year,
including prospective parents’ evenings for Years 7 and 12 and prize evening.
You need to feel confident and comfortable talking to adults and students.
You need to have good organisational and communication skills and have a mature and thoughtful
outlook.

Reporting to
The Deputy Head teacher (Neil Cully) for whole-school matters
The Assistant Head teacher with responsibility for KS5 (Jackie Shanahan) for sixth form matters

Main Duties
 To organise and plan regular meetings with the School Council and ensure that decisions are
   carried out.
 To organise and plan regular meetings with the Sixth Form Council and ensure that decisions are
   carried out.
 To represent and speak for all students in the school and support and prepare activities that
   encourages and supports the learning of others.
 To be internal and external ambassadors for the School and to act as role models for all students
   at Notre Dame High School.
 To give key presentations about the School, for example to prospective parents and students at
   the Sixth Form Open Evening and at the annual prize evening.
 To greet important visitors to the School.
 To plan and present at least one assembly to all year groups
 To report to the Leadership Team every half term.
 To attend one Governor’s meeting and report on how student voice has had an impact on school
   planning.

Additional Duties
 Organisation of the Year 13 Year Book
 Organisation of Year 13 Leavers’ Dinner through a student committee working closely with the
   Finance Office
 Charity and fund-raising events
 Any other duties that may be reasonably called upon to undertake by Senior Members of staff

Eligibility
 All current Year 12 students who intend to remain at Notre Dame next academic year are eligible
     to stand.

Application
If you wish to run for head student you must provide the following:
 A completed nomination form signed by two members of staff.
 A formal letter of application, addressed to student council, which covers the following points
     explaining why you believe you will make a good head student (please limit this to one side of
     A4)
      How you will continue to support the Catholic ethos of the school. (This does not mean you
         have to be Catholic)
      The specific contributions you will make to the life of the school.
      Your personal qualities.
      Your style of leadership.
      How you will promote yourself as a positive role model for peers and younger students.
Please give specific examples of achievements which demonstrate these qualities.


   Application forms should be submitted to Mrs Johnstone in the Sixth Form
    Office by the end of the day on Tuesday 3rd May.
   Short listing will be carried out by members the School Council and Senior
    Management Team.
   Applicants who have been successful at the shortlisting stage will be invited to interview to
    members of the School Council and representative(s) of the Senior Management Team in the
    week beginning Monday 9th May.
   Hustings are scheduled for 1st-7th July when each candidate will present his/her case for
    becoming Head Boy or Girl to year assemblies. Election Day is planned to be on Thursday 7th July
    for Yrs7, 8, 9, 11 and 12. Yr10 students will vote early on 1st July, just before they begin their
    work experience.
