This tutorial was written specifically for part #301600. This product comes in 2 different settings: parts
#30161 and #30162. Both of these were originally made and configured for in-swing doors. However,
most American applications involve installing them in out-swing steel security doors. Therefore, you
will need to change the handing of your lock once you purchase it to ensure that it operates correctly.

To reverse the handing of your lock, you will need to rotate latch 180° so bevel is facing right direction.

This lock can be installed in 4 possible out-swing configurations (Pick correct lock from drop-
down on the product page):

   1) Key Above Handle + Right Hand Out-Swing → purchase #30161 and change the handing

   2) Key Below Handle + Right Hand Out-Swing → purchase #30162 and change the handing

   3) Key Above Handle + Left Hand Out-Swing → purchase #30162 and change the handing

   4) Key Below Handle + Left Hand Out-Swing → purchase #30161 and change the handing

If you purchase the wrong lock, the bevel may be facing the correct direction without needing to be
changed, but the panic function will be on the outside, meaning that the internal toggle lock will be able
to be unlocked by anybody from the outside. Additionally, this could mean people inside could be
locked in.

*Note: We have another article that shows how to change the direction of the panic function should you
happen to purchase the wrong lock These directions won't be necessary for most customers, though.

How to Change the Handing of Mortise Lockset

   1. Begin by unscrewing the coverplate of the lockset. It is held on by 3 screws.

   2. You can now see all the internal parts of the lock.

   3. Carefully remove the deadbolt spring.

   4. Next, remove the deadbolt lever. We suggest that as you remove parts, you lay them next to the
lock facing the same direction as when you removed them. This will make it easier to put the
      lock back together.

   5. Remove the deadbolt.

   6. Pull the spring latch out of the lock.

   7. Flip the spring latch so the bevel is facing the opposite direction. Replace the spring latch,
making sure the washer is pushed up with the springs and not sitting at the base of the spring
      latch.

   8. Replace all the parts of the lock in the same way that you took them out: replace the deadbolt,
then the deadbolt lever and then the deadbolt spring. Make sure your lock looks like the image
below—with all the pieces in the correct position and your bevel now facing the correct
      direction. Last, replace the coverplate.
