"Prophet Nuh (A.S.) and the Great Flood"
Prophet Nuh (A.S.) and the Great Flood Richmond Islamic School http://www.richmondis.net 1 Idol Worship • Wud, Suwa, Yaghuth, Ya’uq and Nasr • People erected statues in their honor to remember them and to inspire them • Believe that these idols were real gods http://www.richmondis.net 2 The Mission Begins • Allah sent Prophet Nuh A.S. to his people with this mission “Warn your people before there comes to them a terrible penalty” http://www.richmondis.net 3 The Mission • Prophet Nuh A.S. “My People, I am a clear Warner sent to you with the message that you should serve Allah, fear Him and obey me. Then He may forgive you your sins and give you time for a set period. For when the period given by Allah is accomplished it cannot be extended, if you only knew.” (71:1-5) http://www.richmondis.net 4 The Mission • “My people! Serve Allah! You have no other God but Him. I fear for you the punishment of an awful day!” • But the leaders of his people said, – “What! You must be crazy!” http://www.richmondis.net 5 The Mission • “My people, there is no sickness in my mind. On the contrary, I am a messenger from the Lord of the Universe! I am only carrying out the duties of My Lord’s mission. My advice is sincere to you and I know things from Allah that you don’t. Don’t you ever consider that there is coming to you a message from your Lord through a man of your own people? You are warned so you may fear Allah and receive His Mercy” (7:59-63) http://www.richmondis.net 6 The Challenger • “We don’t see you as anything more than a man like us. The only people who seem to be listening to your message are the poor and foolish. We don’t see anything in you that are any better than us. We think you are a liar!” http://www.richmondis.net 7 The Mission • “My people! Consider if I have a sign from my Lord and that He sent mercy to me from Himself. But the mercy is hidden from your eyes. Should we force you to accept it if you hate it. My people! I’m not asking for any money in return. My reward is from none but Allah. And I won’t drive away anyone who believes for they will surely meet their Lord and I think you are the ignorant ones!” http://www.richmondis.net 8 The Mission • “My people! Who would help me against Allah if I drove the (poor) away? Won’t you listen” I’m not telling you that I have the treasures of Allah, nor do I know what is hidden and I’m not an angel. And I don’t say that the people you consider poor will be denied good from Allah. Allah knows best what is in their souls. If I (turned the poor believers away) then I would be a wrong-doer.” http://www.richmondis.net 9 The Challenger • “Nuh! You have argued with us and lengthened our dispute too long. We dare you to bring on us what you threaten us with, if you are truthful.” http://www.richmondis.net 10 The Mission • “Truly Allah will bring it on you if He wills, and then you won’t be able to stop it. My words to you will not help you, as much as I like to give you good advice. If Allah wills to let you stray, He is your Lord and you will return to Him.” (11:27- 34) http://www.richmondis.net 11 Prophet Nuh’s A.S. Despair • “My Lord, I’ve called to my people night and day, but my calling only increases (their) flight from the truth. And every time I call them so You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears, cover themselves up with their cloaks, and they grow stubborn and give themselves up to arrogance.” http://www.richmondis.net 12 Despair • “So I have called to them aloud. Further I have spoken to them in public and secretly in private saying “Ask forgiveness from your Lord, for He is Forgiving. He will send rain to you in abundance; give you increase in wealth and sons; and bestow on you gardens and rivers of flowing water. What’s the matter with you that you don’t place your hope for kindness and perseverance in Allah seeing that He is the One Who created you in (the womb) in stages?” http://www.richmondis.net 13 The Mission • “Don’t you see how Allah created the seven skies, one above the other, and made the moon a light in their midst and made the sun as a lamp? Allah has produced you from the Earth growing (gradually) and in the end, He will return you into the (Earth) and raise you forth (again at the Resurrection) Allah has made the Earth for you as a carpet (spread out) that you may go about on spacious plains.” http://www.richmondis.net 14 The Mission • “My Lord! They have disobeyed me and they follow (men) whose wealth and children give them nothing but loss. And they have planned a tremendous plot and they have said (to each other) don’t abandon you gods; don’t abandon Wadd or Suwa nor Yaguth, Ya’ug or Nasr. They have already misled many, and You grant no increase to the wrongdoers except in straying (from their goal).” (71:6-24) http://www.richmondis.net 15 Allah’s Command • “None of your people will believe except those who have already believed. So don’t worry over their actions any longer. Build a ship under Our sight and Our direction and don’t call on Me anymore about those who are in sin, for they are going to be overwhelmed.” http://www.richmondis.net 16 The Ship • He began building a ship in the mountain valley • They teased him harshly • He would answer back, “If you tease us now, we will look down on you also. Soon you will know who will have a punishment on them that will cover them in shame, on who will have an ever-lasting punishment!” http://www.richmondis.net 17 Prophet’s Nuh Ship http://www.richmondis.net 18 Allah’s Command • Allah commanded “Board the ship and take two of each kind (of local farm animals,) a male and female, and your family, except those whom had the word decreed against them, and also take the believers.” • Prophet Nuh A.S. announced “Board the ship whether it moves or not. My Lord is the Forgiving and Merciful.” (11:36-40) http://www.richmondis.net 19 The Great Flood • The ship rose on the water whose waves swelled like mountains. • Saw his son and said, “My son, get on board with us and don’t be with the unbelievers!” • Son said, “I will climb a mountain and be saved from the water” • Prophet Nuh A.S. replied, “Today nothing can save you from the water!” http://www.richmondis.net 20 The Flood • The flood took his son and his disbelieved wife • Allah said, “Nuh, come down (from the ship) with peace from Us and a blessing is on you and on some of the nations who will come from those with you. There will also be nations to whom We shall grant treasures, but in the end a painful punishment from Us will reach them (if they fall into evil).” (11:41-48) http://www.richmondis.net 21 Prophet Nuh Ship http://www.richmondis.net 22 The End http://www.richmondis.net 23
