                       Committee-Specific Descriptions and Responsibilities

FAMILY RELATIONS (FR) CABINET:

Family Rep. Committee:
   o Help organize and communicate with over 200 family reps
   o Retain 200 family reps
   o Responsible for communicating directly with a group of family reps
   o Give advice to family reps about how best to contact their families
   o Help run rep meetings
   o Organize and create pillow cases for the Big Event

Family Programming Committee:
   o Help organize and create the five family events (Planet X, Adventureland, Lost Island,
       Bloomsbury Farms, Putnam Children’s Museum).
   o Develop activities needed during the events
   o Attend work nights, as needed throughout the year
   o Run the family events
   o Create the theme for the family room at the Big Event
   o Design and head the construction of all decorations for the family room at the Big Event
   o Organize and help with entertainment for the family room at the Big Event
Hospital Committee:

Description: The Hospital Committee is composed of 12 people. Each member is required to volunteer 3
hours per week on the Pediatric Oncology unit of the UI Children’s Hospital with our Dance Marathon
kids. In addition to those hours, Hospital Committee members attend some Wednesday Night DM
playtimes, DM Hospital Parties, DM diner, and Elf visits. The hospital committee members along with
the Hospital Director and Chair provide the backbone of DM support to our inpatient families.

Qualities we are looking for in hospital candidates include passion for Dance Marathon, someone who
feels comfortable in the hospital setting, friendly and outgoing with kids and parents, professional with
hospital staff. If you have any additional questions about this committee please email the Hospital

Responsibilities
   o Volunteer 3 hours per week on the Pediatric Oncology unit with our Dance Marathon Families
   o Organize and run craft parties at the hospital
   o Organize and run holiday parties at the hospital
   o Complete sunshine hours at the hospital (3 hours of volunteering on 3JCP a week)

All FR members are expected to attend and assist with other committee’s events throughout the
year. In addition, FR members are expected to attend weekly meetings at the IMU on Wednesday
nights at 9:00P.M. Leadership and Dancer Meetings are mandatory throughout the year, as well.


BUSINESS CABINET:

Business Committee:

We are planning to make some lasting changes to the business committee for Dance Marathon 19, so we
are looking for individuals who demonstrate a willingness to implement and revise ideas and programs
based on their effectiveness, a strong drive to develop DM for future years, a love for our cause, and a
touch of creativity.

Primary responsibilities include brainstorming and implementing a variety of incentive programs for
dancers to begin and continue raising money; improving existing fundraising opportunities and programs
such as canning, the letter writing campaign, and spirit dancing; following proper cash handling practices;
and maintaining an accurate online database.

Responsibilities:
    Attend bi-weekly or as needed Business Cabinet meetings
    Attend group database and process training session
    Attend individual database and process training session as needed
    Hold at least one office hour per week in the University Box Office after training
    Enter donations into database and prepare donations for deposit
    Help Canning Co-Chairs run canning as needed
    Attend a cash handling training session
    Attend and assist at dancer check-in times as available
    Help enter donations into database and prepare donations for deposit at the Big Event
Sponsorship Committee:
    Attend bi-weekly or as needed Business Cabinet meetings
    Solicit businesses for items to auction off at Family Weekend Brunch
    Solicit businesses at Sponsorship Phone-a-thon as available
    Attend and assist at dancer check-in times as available
    Help at the Care Package and Dancer Incentive Program tables at the Big Event

Development Committee:
    Attend bi-weekly or as needed Business Cabinet meetings
    Solicit businesses for items to auction off at Family Weekend Brunch
    Help plan Family Weekend Brunch, Dance Marathon the Marathon, and Community Days
    Brainstorm ideas to develop a stronger relationship with the Iowa City and surrounding
       communities
    Attend and assist at dancer check-in times as available
    Help at the Alumni check-in table at the Big Event as needed
    Help at the Care Package and Dancer Incentive Program tables at the Big Event as necessary


EVENT CABINET:

Morale Committee:
     Be a part of a team of 45+ committee members
     Recruit and retain dancers at different events throughout the year
     Be the liaison between the organization and the dancers who join your morale group
     Answer any questions dancers/participants might have
     Work closely with the morale director and chairs, as well as the morale captain assistants
     At the Big Event you are expected to support and be a leader to your dancers
     Attend weekly meetings.
All Morale members are expected to attend and assist with other committee’s events throughout
the year. In addition, Morale members are expected to attend weekly meetings at the IMU on
Wednesday nights at 9:00P.M. Leadership and Dancer Meetings are mandatory throughout the
year, as well.

Morale Captain Assistant Committee:
   Be a part of a team of 100+ committee members
   Help the morale captain with duties such as dancer socials and facilitating communication at
       dancer meetings
   Help with recruitment and retention at various events on campus
   Attend morale captain assistant meetings every month

Event Committee:
    Work closely with the event director and event chairs
    Be a part of the brainstorming, planning, and execution process for Dance Marathon recruitment
       efforts and entertainment events on campus
    Help set up and run the events for students along
    Assist with other miscellaneous projects throughout the year
    Attend weekly event committee meetings
PR/Marketing Committee:

The PR/Marketing committee is a collaborative team that works to advertise and promote Dance
Marathon throughout the campus and community. As a committee member, you will have the opportunity
to assist the five chairmen (Media Relations, Merchandise, Social Media, Website and Graphic Design) in
their designated responsibilities.

 Committee duties range from assisting in updating the organization’s social media sites and promoting
Dance Marathon merchandise to designing promotional material and contributing to writing press releases
and other news articles related to the organization’s yearlong events.

Responsibilities
    Assist in merchandise sales
    Help with the creation of all marketing materials
    Be a face for Dance Marathon throughout the UI campus
    Document Dance Marathon events
    Spread the word about Dance Marathon recruitment and retention events

Operations Committee:

Operations committee is one of the most important committees in Dance Marathon. Ops committee runs
the Big Event. Our focus is on how to make the Big Event better than it has every been before!
Operations contains three sub-committees: Operations, Volunteer, and Logistics. You would work closely
with a group of your peers, our 3 chairpersons, and the Operation Director to put into action everything
that needs to be done to prepare for the Big Event in February. You have the opportunity to possibly have
your ideas and visions implemented at the Big Event!

In an operations committee member, I am looking for someone who has a good work ethic, an awesome
attitude, and willing to put their heart into helping this organization. If you want to help DM in a way that
is truly unique, join OPS! And remember, it’s all FTK!
      Assist with Sustainability effort within Dance Marathon
      Help execute all logistics during the school year
      Help execute all logistics during the BIG Event
      Assist in coordinating volunteers leading up to and during the main event
      Manage Dance Marathon’s storage unit
