"Tips for Grant Writers"
Hello! We hope this brief overview will assist you in preparing a grant that tells your organization’s story and ultimately, is recognized with a Partners Grant from Speedway Children’s Charities. The information included in this packet is intended to assist grant writers in conveying to the grant committee their organization’s funding needs, and plans to develop a program that meets the direct needs of children. Please take note that this year we are again requesting that you send three (3) complete copies of the Partners Grant application to assist us in the rigorous grant review process. In addition, we are requesting a cover letter from your Board President, to convey an overall glimpse of your organization so that the grant application itself is more focused on the specific project for which you are requesting funding. It is extremely important that we have a clear number of children served by the specific project you are requesting funding for. This is an important component to your application and in Speedway Children’s Charities funding goals. We look forward to receiving your Partners Grant application and assisting you with any questions you have about the grant process. Reminder, the application must be postmarked on or before May 30, 2009 to be eligible for review by the grant committee! At any time, please feel free to call the Speedway Children’s Charities office at (817) 215-8421. We would be happy to answer your questions. Again, thank you for your interest in funding from SCC and the best to all of you in your fundraising efforts! To assist the Speedway Children’s Charities grant committee, please observe the amount of space given for each answer. If you need additional room for your answer you may add pages. Please refrain from using “SEE ATTACHMENT” in the standard form. This makes the grant application difficult to follow and adds additional paper that could be misplaced or lost. *TIP! Be concise and specific in your answers to the questions. A long answer doesn’t necessarily equate to a better answer. The Grant Questions Project narrative: Be as specific as possible. The project narrative should reflect the proposed project the funding will be used to support. The number of children served as it relates to the proposed project should be included in this answer. Information on the number of children served by the project is paramount in the grant review process. Please be as specific in this answer as possible! Qualifications of Project Proposal: Include the names, titles, and credentials of the personnel that will be involved in the proposed project outlined in the project narrative. Project Duration: Give specific time-frames and projections for the future of the program, including where additional funding may come from. Fiscal Information of Applicant Organization: Total operating income information is needed, as well as a complete income and expense statement for 2007 and 2008. (This can be attached). The application also asks for a budget for the forthcoming year, if possible. Please indicate the items that you have included in your application. We are also asking for the financials of the specific project for which you are requesting funding. If this project has been in existence in the past year, please provide financials from last year as well. Description of Applicant Organization as conveyed by cover letter from Board President: Please touch on these points: 1) Date organized 2) Scope of services 3) Programs 4) Number of children served by the organization 5) Priorities and Plans TIP! Also note, this section asks for the total number of children served by your organization each year! This is an important component of your application. Record of past funding from Speedway Children’s Charities: If applicable to your organization, explain specifically in this section, what past funding from SCC was used for. We are also asking for a history of your requests and gifts from Speedway Children’s Charities. Please be complete in your answers to this question. Certification: It is very important that the signatures of the organization’s Board President or Authorizing Official, the Project Coordinator and the Treasurer are on the application. Their name, position, and address must also be included in this section to be considered for a grant. MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE DUE DATE FOR THE APPLICATION TO BE RECEIVED BY THE SCC OFFICE IS POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE MAY 30, 2009. NO EXCEPTIONS!
