Job Description
Post Title: - Teacher of Science
Salary Grade:- Upper Pay Scale 1
Base: KS3 & KS4
Responsible to:- Headteacher
Purpose of the job:-
To deliver high quality teaching and learning to pupils and to be part of The Park
ESC team
Standards:-
All teachers work within the statutory conditions of employment set out in the
current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document. The duties listed below
are not, therefore, an exhaustive list of what is required.
Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
Plan and teach well structured lessons
Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils
Make accurate and productive use of assessment
Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
Fulfil wider professional responsibilities
Personal and professional conduct
A teacher is expected to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and
professional conduct. The following statements define the behaviour and attitudes
which set the required standard for conduct throughout a teacher’s career.
Teachers uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of
ethics and behaviour within and outside school, by:
treat pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at
all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional
position
have regard for the need to safeguard pupils’ well-being, in accordance with
statutory provisions
show tolerance of and respect for the rights of others
not undermine fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law,
individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different
faiths and beliefs

ensure that personal beliefs are not expressed in ways which exploit pupils’
vulnerability or might lead them to break the law.
Teachers must have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and
practices of the school in which they teach, and maintain high standards in their
own attendance and punctuality.
Teachers must have an understanding of, and always act within, the statutory
frameworks which set out their professional duties and responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:-
Deliver Science.
Supervise the work of any support staff.
Be aware of and comply with all ESC policies and procedures relating to and
including child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data
protection.
To take part in training, professional development and attend all meetings as
directed by the Headteacher
To provide information, data and evaluation as required by the Headteacher,
SLT and Childrens’ Services .
To undertake any reasonable duties as directed by the Headteacher.
Support for pupils’ learning:
Responsibility with the Headteacher and SLT for the provision of a broad,
balanced and differentiated curriculum following National Curriculum
requirements .
To liaise with other professionals and parents where appropriate in order to
better educate and support pupils, observing professional confidentiality where
necessary.
To teach pupils individually, when required.
Support for the curriculum:
To teach specialist subject; Science
To develop a Science scheme of work for KS3 & KS4
To support the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum

Appropriate professional support from SLT

The post holder is managed by a member of the school’s senior leadership
team.

SCIENCE – UPS1
Additional Duties:
Have a comprehensive knowledge and well-informed understanding of the assessment
requirements for the Science curriculum.
Contribute where appropriate, to implementing the Science curriculum, policy and practice
and to promote collective responsibility for their implementation.
Have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of how to use and adapt a range of
teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies, including how to personalise
learning to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential
Have up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the different types of qualifications and
specifications and their suitability for meeting learners’ needs.
Have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Science curriculum area and
related pedagogy including how learning progresses.
Be flexible, creative and adept at designing learning sequences within lessons and across
lessons that are effective and consistently well-matched to learning objectives and the
needs of learners and which integrate recent developments, including those relating to
the Science curriculum.
Have teaching skills which lead to learners achieving well, relative to their prior
attainment, making progress as good as, or better than, similar learners nationally.

Contribute to the professional development of colleagues through coaching and mentoring,
demonstrating effective practice, and providing advice and feedback.
TLR:
To have responsibility as a subject coordinator for the Science provision at The Park
ESC.
