You Can:
Use Google Sketchup to create models for other topic areas such as DT.
Create models that then can be exported to support writing in a Literacy and Humanities
context.

Assessment Questions: (AF1)
How effective a tool is Google Sketchup?
What are the applications for this software?

                                                   Drawing 3d models
Why teach this unit?
                                        Exporting and importing Sketchup models
Children will experience 3d modelling
                                        between users
– an application used in industry for
architecture and design – see

                                        Process:
This unit can be extended as there is
always something new to learn with To create a navigable model
Sketchup and it lends itself greatly to
competitions.
                                        Concepts:
Children can download Sketchup at
home and so carry on their learning To know that modelling allows us to test out
there ideas quickly and effectively.

This unit links with digital image

It has curriculum links with
Geography, art, design and
technology and History, e.g children
could create a ‘Round House’

2 Pupils should be taught:
a how to develop and refine ideas by bringing together, organising and reorganising text, tables, images and
sound as appropriate
4 Pupils should be taught to:
a review what they and others have done to help them develop their ideas
b describe and talk about the effectiveness of their work with ICT, comparing
it with other methods and considering the effect it has on others [for
example, the impact made by a desktop-published newsletter or poster]
c talk about how they could improve future work.
