How to Access Your NJIT Webmail by Google Account

Summary:

This document presents a description of how to log into your NJIT Webmail by Google

account; to access your NJIT email. These instructions were meant for an intermediate level user

with an NJIT UCID and password, and those who have had some experience with using a

computer and accessing the web.

You should also mention that they are on campus or running VPN

Prerequisites:

In order to proceed with these instructions the user must have a NJIT UCID and

password, a computer running Windows 98 or higher, a connection to the internet, and basic

knowledge of how to use a computer and access the web.

Concepts:

Webmail by Google: NJIT’s new service for accessing the school’s email system.
UCID and Password: Your log in information to access your NJIT student account and email.
Highlander Pipeline: NJIT’s student main page where you enter your UCID and password, lets
you access various student services.

Accessing Your NJIT Webmail by Google Account:
Assumptions
It is assumed that you have already started your computer and have logged into your desktop.
You should be at your main desktop screen.
                                                                                                     2

Before you start

1) Look for the Internet Explorer icon (Blue “e” with a yellow ribbon across it) on your desktop
main screen and left click on it with the mouse. (See Diagram 1 below) You can use Firefox
or another browser if you wish but for these instructions we will rely on Internet Explorer.
Note: If you don’t see an Internet Explorer icon on your desktop main screen, left click with the
mouse on the Start icon (lower left side of the screen). Then on the menu that comes up
highlight and left click with the mouse on All Programs. This should cause another pop
up menu to show, where you can look for Internet Explorer and left click on it with the
mouse. Internet Explorer should be in this list if you have it installed on your computer.
        (See Diagram 2)

                                                                                                    3

2. The Internet Explorer browser should load and the web browser homepage should be

displayed. Left click the mouse (to highlight) the address in the browser address bar and then

right click with the mouse. This should bring up a pop up menu, highlight and left click with the

mouse on “cut.” This should remove the address that was in the address bar. (See Diagram 3

below)

Note: If the address bar is empty from the start (no homepage), you can skip to Step 3.

                                                                                                   4

This was the end fo the how to open the browser process and you are mvoig on the the how to
navigate to a URL
3. In the now empty address bar, type in http://www.njit.edu and hit the enter key. Let the page

load.

4. When the page has finished loading, you should be at the NJIT main page. At the top middle

of the NJIT homepage you should see a link that says “My NJIT.” Left click with the mouse on

“My NJIT” and wait for the page to load. (See Diagram 4)

Webmail by Google homepage (page opens separate from Highlander Pipeline).

will see prompts for your UCID and password. Enter them accordingly and left click with the

Results:

You should now have access to your NJIT Webmail by Google page. Here you can check your

NJIT email, compose email, forward emails, check your calender and etc.

*** If you decide to use Firefox or another web browser follow the same steps as above. Just

note that you might receive different security prompts.

If you are unable to access your Webmail by Google account, forgot your UCID or password, or

have a problem with any of the steps above contact the NJIT Help Desk for more information or

email Dave at davep@studenthelp.com.

You really need to pick a single process and give the details needed to understand it fully.
